New fence to keep people out

Main reason is mushrooms. In fact, they should be the main use of the land as they are more valuable than pastures or trees. Most people trespassing are not profesional mushroom pickers, so they don't do it for money, they just like to enjoy a day in the woods.

if there is a road near buy and there is a patern to there aparinces call you police agancy mabey they can step up patrolls and yea see why they are tresspassing

I'm with radioman. How determined are these people, and is there a concern of potential danger to them or you? ...besides the liability issue.

Using barbed wire to control people takes a different approach than with cattle. I'm not confessing to anything here, but I've had to climb over barbed wire a few times in my day. I found loose, droopy wires to be troublesome while taut wires were a cinch to cross.

As for personal attention, I don't condone this, but a friend of mine was shot with rocksalt as a boy while stealing apples; this method has a VERY low recidivism rate.

Quite determined. My hope is that as I'm one of the first in the area to resist, and as there are plenty of other places to go (that will be easier), most will move.

Wish I could shoot them with salt, but I can't.

Problem with loose wires is that you can move them to make room and get in. You can tie them with posts, or with vertical wires, but then it's similar to taut ones ... you just climb were the post is.

"No climb" horse fence (2" x 4" mesh) 48" high, a strand of of Ramm electric tape around the top, and a Doberman and Pitt Bull running inside of it seems to work for us.

I'll investigate that kind of fence. Not sure it will be legal as it must allow wild animal to get through. It will soon be inside a natural reserve.

This is 150 acres, so dogs to control are not an option. I'm considering getting a few brave bulls. You can get insurance and are not liable to damage done to people inside your area. Once they get somebody, problems decrease (personal experience). Pastures are rented so it would be tricky.

I'll also think about an electric fence ... need to think how to protect the installation so it doesn't get stolen. It would only need to be charged for 3 or 4 months.

I've been thinking about the same thing, but my fence only needs to be about 8'. LOL I'm thinking I'm going to string barbed wire in an up and down pattern so that it cannot be climbed on. I'm also going to electrify all the barbed wire. I wanted to use razor wire but it's too expensive...

My main worry is people with wire cutters. No more fence. I don't plan to put any electric fence warning signs, I want it to be a surprise. They think they're being quiet and sneeky when all the sudden they get shocked and scream and crap themselves. Am I allowed to hook it up to my full 3 phase power system?

Yes, that would be expensive ... and ilegal, it must allow small animals to get through.

This also makes great fences (goat proof), and it's much cheaper. Used everywere in Crete. Also more difficult to cut. I plan to use it to reinforce worst spots.

We recently purchased additional land that abuts our propery here in Ohio. While I am not too concerned about mushroom hunting trespassers, I do expect that I will have some problems with deer hunters. Fencing in 76 acres of woods is probably not an option for me so I decided to allow a couple of (trusted) neighbors to hunt the property during season. This effectively means that I will have two more sets of eyes patrolling the woods for trespassers. They have been fully informed of who is allowed on the property and they have instructions to run off any one who is trespassing. Perhaps the same sort of arrangement could benefit your situation. If you are willing to let a few of your closer friends or trusted neighbors hunt some of the mushrooms on your property they would probably be willing to help you keep trespassers out.
People will find a way to get over, under, or through fences. They may however be unwilling to cross a boundry if there is a good chance they will be caught by someone (word gets around). Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Perhaps a sign indicating that the owner of the property bears no responsibility for any poisoning that results from the mushrooms picked there, might be a deterrent.
Are you anywhere near Girona/Barcelona?

First couple of mornings of deer season, I go out and patrol the property lines with my 4 wheeler. I figure the noise of the 4 wheeler let's them know that I'm out watching.

Ohio law makes it illegal for someone to hunt on land without WRITTEN permission. Have you marked your property lines with "no hunting/no tresspassing" signs?

With our horses, I don't want any of the wild shooters I hear near our horses.

An interesting side note, if an owner posts his own property "No Hunting" in PA, the owner can not legally hunt on the property either.

The Ramm nylon tape is tough stuff. It would be harder to cut than barbed wire. We keep the charger inside the horse barn and charge ten acres of top strand. Ramm nylon fence is easily spliced. They manufacture the splices. The only way wildlife can get through 2" x 4" mesh is over it or under it. I have the fence 2" to 3" off the ground so that I can weed eat under it. Rabbits, skunks, and small raccoons can get under it. Deer can jump it.
