Our station has had headsets since before I became a volunteer in '99. I can imagine what it was like without them though!

Sorry, you WILL HAVE TO SPEAK UP :D

I thought for sure it was going to be another International engine but that guy at the AutoZone was adamant that it was a Cummins for the new engine. Not that I consider the AutoZone guy to be the absolute authority on new engines or anything, but I thought they had some parts books or something stating it was a Cummins. Are there any changes in store for the Cummins engines? I heard they were going to be quite different in the new Dodge trucks. I'm about due for a new truck in a year or two, I'll have to see how that new 'Stroker does before I jump on that. I came real close to buying one of those 6 liter jobs and I'm glad I didn't. Everyone I have talked to that has one have had lots of niggling little problems with them. No rods through the side of the block or anything just problems with the "brain" having to be reprogrammed several times for one reason or another. I have no problems with a Dodge/Cummins combo but if there is a major redesign coming along I'd like to watch it for a while as well. Never liked to buy something new the first year or two, like to let the manufacturers get the bugs worked out first. Not saying there will be any bugs with any of them but if there is a problem I'm the guy that would get stuck with it.

Dodge does have a new engine out/coming out any day it is a 6.7L. biggerthan the old 5.9L but about the same power as I recall.

With all of the new emissions, that all of the manufacturers must meet, they will have so many computer controlled everything, it will be very difficult to do any work yourself, and darn spendy to get something fixed.

IDF, Is the 6.7 going to replace the 5.9 for the 2007 model year? I probably should just break down and get an '06 Dodge before they are all gone.

This Ford/Cummins connection has been floating around for several years now. Usually, you hear some derivative from the local Ford truck sales person.

Anyway, from 1994 until 1997, Ford owned 10% of Cummins stock and does use the 5.9 and 8.3 in some larger trucks. Ford does not now nor did ever own Cummins lock-stock- and barrel. Ford does have a good working relationship with Cummins but not for pickup applications.

Cummins largest customer is in fact Daimler-Chrysler.

A simple search on Cummins and Ford-Cummins will yield a wealth of info. Anyone trying to sell you something different should be reason to get up and leave the showroom/store.

Or perhaps just wait until the bugs if any are ironed out. When Cummins went from 12V to 24V, there were a lot of problems. Me? Perhaps when they go to a tilt hood so you have access to the engine, I may just upgrade from my old 97'.

Ford's sticking with Navistar/International. Dodge (DaimlerChrysler) will be expanding their diesel offerings quite a bit in about 2 years. Cummins and the Dept of Energy have been testing 2 new engines, A V6 and a V8 light duty diesel engine. The I6 will be around still for the heavy haulers, but the V6 was tested in the Durango, and the V8 was tested in the Ram 1500. There's a great article in Diesel Power Magazine (not available in the current online offering) that discusses these engines. If you go to Cummins.com, they discuss the 1.4 million sq ft expansion of their Columbus, IN plant to begin production on these engines, and list DCX as the chief customer. Quiet, Torquey (compared to gas...) and fuel efficient seems like a winning recipe to me. Add the 3 litre Mercedes Diesel in the Jeep Grand Cherokee....

That Diesel Power Mag also has a great interview with the Gov. of Montana and his vision of mass produced sulphur free diesel fuel made from Coal. I guess the process has been around since the turn of the century, but only the Germans ever seemed to be big into it. It's the The Fischer-Tropsch process and the private sector and the feds are looking into it...interesting reading....

The new ford engine, are you talking about the current International VT275 (4.3L)V6 diesel engine that is currently being put in Fords medium duty trucks? I have heard this is the one bound for lighter duty p/u trucks and vans. I have a friend that just bought a new Ford cab over roll back truck and this is the engine in it. International : VT275

Ford will also be using the 6.4L International engine in 2008. Power Stroke® Diesel - Power Stroke® Diesel News

The 4.5L(VT275) is curently in use in the LCF(Ford) and CF(International version) cab overs(like the little Izuzu's we're so used to seeing).. It was originaly destined for the F-150 & Expedition chassis, but weight and emissions killed that idea(from what I have been told).. You wont be seing that engine in the Ford 1/2 Ton chassis.... I have heard of other projects in the works, but nothing definite as of yet... I'd bet you'll see and hear alot more after the 6.4L has been out a bit.. One fish at a time..:D .. BTW, for what its worth, if anyone still doubts it, I have all three in my posession, the 4.5L, 6.0L, and 6.4L and can assure you they are all Navistar/International and based on the same design..
