I for one will say that if anything, this forum has made me open-minded. I am still relatively young compared to many of you (29) and I grew up in an anti-Ford household. The reason I bring up the age thing is that a lot of that is still fresh in my memory and I sort of followed that mentality. My dad did own a few ford that I remember from my teenage years because he got a good price on them. He constantly complained about them anytime he had to do anything to them, but if he had a problem with one of the other makes, it was considered just "normal" wear.
All of the reading I have done here has opened my mind and I pay attention to other things now. I know plenty of people that own fords that still love them. I work on my BIL's F-150 and can't say too many bad things about it that I couldn't say about any other manufacturer. If you are biased to begin with, then anything the "enemy" brand does wrong is amplified in your mind. I think it just comes down to luck and maintenance. I have an old Ram 2500 and it has been far from trouble free, but I still like it and can't say that it has been a bad truck. I bought that truck when I was twenty and really gave it some abuse in the first few years of ownership.
I am currently (lazily) looking for a new truck. I am in no hurry, but am always on the search. I will not necessarily discount Ford from my search as I would have in the past. I still prefer Dodge or GM because I have been around them and familiar with them so a Ford would be at the bottom of the list, but not out of the question. Heck, I almost bought an '05 f-350 off of someone I know with the dreaded 6.0 psd, just because it was a good deal. I thought about it too long (like 6 months) and he ended up selling it right when I got more serious. I would even consider a Toyota if they made a 3/4 ton. I still can't jump on the Nissan bandwagon yet only because I do have a little exposure to their cars (mostly a couple maximas and altimas) and hate the way that they do things, it's like they intentionally make things difficult and expensive to fix.
The point is, this forum has helped me to remove my bias (somewhat) and become a more informed buyer. All trucks can have problems, and I can't really claim that one brand is worse than any other. Sorry for such the long post to make such a small point.
