Perhaps I should post as to how I made an attachement to modify my chainsaw into a saw mill. LOL

Shucks, it was DIY, included welding, wood and my tractor.

Time wise it was costly but on a satisfaction level priceless.
Oh, and I made about 10 boards and I think maybe used 3 or 4.

I appreciated Quicksand and Moss's posts here. I too find the social aspect pleasurable... and I'm an engineer! Granted there are a bunch of amateurs chiming in on a variety of subjects adding color and real life (hopefully) but why not! I have come to put some faith and trust into certain members here and definitely weigh that vs. a salesman I just met, or one guy down the street or neighborhood that likely cannot give you an unbiased opinion. At least here, one can build up a relationship with folks with common interest.

Why limit the categories? There are tools on TBN that allow you to customize your experience. Hopefully folks are taking advantage of the search function to its fullest. Also subscriptions... you can also subscribe to specific forums. Then you frequent 'My Home' and only peruse your selected interests.

The more people joining because of various interests, the bigger the pool of fish thus more information at your finger tips. Where else should I turn for a good read?

As Bird and others can attest to, way back when (around 2001) it was easy to log in to TBN every day and read EVERY post that was made that day. Heck, even just about 5-6 years ago I'd still do it. Just not possible now.

So, I use Today's Posts several times per day and mark them all read after perusing the list for new interesting topics or ones I'm commenting in, or just watching. If I've been away for more than 24 hours, I just push New Posts and everything since the last visit shows up. It may be 5-6 pages, but I can plow through those links pretty fast. I tend to right click on the ones I want to read and choose to open them in a new tab. Works for me.

I'd like to see that home-made chainsaw mill... I want to make one myself... or should I not clutter up this thread on something off-topic? *grin*

I am also a 'forestry forum' member, it served it's perpous at the time, answered a few questions, but never had that 'down home old time country store with a potbelly stove in the corner' feel of TBN.

I check this site daily, due largely to the cyber friends I've come to know and respect. The ability to converse on any number of topics of interest to me, and them, all on one site, is convenient and keeps me coming back.

I have also been a member of powerstroke.org for years, and have brought at least on of my friends from there over to TBN. The idea of adding a 'tractors' section to their site was asked about, and declined, and I've spent less time there since then. Another factor is the decline in member post quality, the posts had not been moderated near as closely as here, it just isn't as comfortable as it was years ago. I still check it out, still post, but I often don't know the other posters like I used to, not like I do here.

I'll keep the variety, please... if I don't like a post or thread, I move on... others can easily do the same, and let the rest of us enjoy our friendly banter about the things we share intrest in...

Last, but likely most important, a big 'THANK YOU' to all who moderate and maintain this site. I, as likely do many others, genuinely appreciate it for what it is.

Well said in its entirety... I deleted all but your last sentence because I believe that is this is the key to this forum.

If everyone follwed the concept: BE NICE! Moderators would not be necessary anyway.

No one knows my deficiencies more than me (with the exception being Katie my wife), and one thing I dislike about myself is that I can be opinionated. I know that, but many times, often after a day of banging around in a bulldozer/skidder/excavator all day and am really tired, keep the BE NICE mantra in mind, and refrain from posting at all, or rephrase what I am going to say.

But I contribute, and I hope everyone feels they have something to contribute.

The heavy equipment and land clearing sub-forums seem to be a touch slow, perhaps due to the season, and I would like to see that change, but realize there are far more people that own Kubota's then bulldozers.

I'd settle for no being annoying! That's the golden rule in our house.
