There appear to be many sub-species of this general type, and no particular color of flesh, fur, or hair predominates. They also seem to reside in multi-generational environments and are often adorned with various fabrics, markings, or shiny metal objects likely scavenged from their surroundings. It has been postulated that this is some form of camouflage, but a poorly chosen one as this often makes them stand out amid more familiar upright-walking homonids.
Despite reported sightings going back some decades there aren't many of these yet seen in retirement communities, and there may be few of them reaching advanced age. It's possible that nocturnal behavior patterns are limiting overall exposure and daylight observation/recognition, tho' many seem to be migrating to high volume government-sponsored domiciles. They seem to be harmless when moving among working populations, and reports of close personal encounters are somewhat scattered as one can often hear them coming from quite a distance.
