The horse is out of the barn on this one but you may be interested to know that brotsten repaired his IP for $52 in mail order parts. Not bad vs a $800 part. He also,posted photos showing the broken part and his invoice for the new parts. In case you don't know, the Bobcat tractor is a white Kioti with minor cosmetic changes.
Some of us (based on your symptoms) suspect your IP was not really broken. But (as you said) we'll never know now. As I understand US laws, you still have to pay if the mechanic replaces the wrong (non-defective) part but it is actionable to be charged for parts that were not replaced.
I hesitate to add your experience to my IP failure spreadsheet because I suspect your original IP did not fail.
Still, you now have a working tractor; that's a good thing.
Now you're making the guy feel bad.
