The horse is out of the barn on this one but you may be interested to know that brotsten repaired his IP for $52 in mail order parts. Not bad vs a $800 part. He also,posted photos showing the broken part and his invoice for the new parts. In case you don't know, the Bobcat tractor is a white Kioti with minor cosmetic changes.

Some of us (based on your symptoms) suspect your IP was not really broken. But (as you said) we'll never know now. As I understand US laws, you still have to pay if the mechanic replaces the wrong (non-defective) part but it is actionable to be charged for parts that were not replaced.

I hesitate to add your experience to my IP failure spreadsheet because I suspect your original IP did not fail.

Still, you now have a working tractor; that's a good thing.

Now you're making the guy feel bad.

This is a fantastic alternative if you've got some mechanical skill but I'd feel really uncomfortable doing what he did as I'm not very mechanically inclined and I don't really know anyone who could have helped me with it either. This is also the reason why I didn't send it to someone who can repair them as I would have been hard pressed to actually remove it and re-install the new one once it was repaired.

As for whether it was the pump or not, I can only believe what I'm told. Without the knowledge to actually investigate the problem on my own, (which I found a lot here, but because I'm not very mechanically inclined I was unable to follow through on it) I had to rely on the dealer to figure it out.

Oh the joys of owning a tractor! It was expensive for me to get replaced but I do accept there's a cost of ownership. I didn't have a tractor under warranty and that changes everything in my situation.

Fields: Sorry if I came across as critical. I appreciate your constraints and considerations and maybe your dealer's diagnosis was right on. I was just trying to discuss possibilities that might be helpful to others in the future. With any luck, you'll never have to worry about your IP again. At 450 hours my original IP is still OK but my 2006 DK is in that batch with suspect IPs. So I've been tracking IP reports; sorry if I got over zealous.
