New Fuel Injector Pump leaking?

Good news is, the leak is fixed. The mechanic didn't tighten the bolts well enough. Once he tightened them down the leak stopped.

Good news! Are you going to retrieve the old IP for the parts value, and in case you may need it in future, etc.? It certainly has value as a spare part, that could likely be inexpensively rebuilt for you or someone else in the similar situation.

I called the dealer back (hard to get a hold of him since he's dealing with a health issue) and he said it was disposed in the Garbage on Monday (I had called around Wednesday). I didn't press the issue but since it wasn't a warrantied part, it should have come back to me when they dropped off the tractor. I was a little pissed about that. Surely they wouldn't have kept the part and lied to me, but like you said, it does have value if someone can rebuild it cheaply enough. It also makes me wonder if there wasn't actually a problem with the part in the first place.

Me, too.

This is commonly done by shops in their attempt to circumvent the law that requires returning the old parts.
I have lost count of the times where I have had friends take a vehicle to a shop and the old part is not
returned. A follow-up contact by the customer results in the lame response that the part had been discarded.

I wonder what would happen if the repair contract is signed with the stipulation that if the old parts were not
returned, then the repair fee is waived.

It is not just that I love failure analysis of machines (I do); I often want to re-use old parts. As a minimum,
I want to be sure a part HAS been replaced. Sadly, if a part is replaced under warranty, the shop has no
obligation to return it, and rarely does.

I have not had anything other than warranty work done on any vehicle, tractor, or machine in 35 yrs, and
that time, I was on the road and at their mercy.

Since the IP's are so expensive it would have been nice to have it back. I watched the video posted on the forums of how to take them apart, easy enough. I would have like to have looked inside to see the teeth on the gears and see if I was in fact another case of a bad IP, but now I'll never know. Sometimes my procrastinating ways get the better of me. I shouldn't have waited to call him to ask for the part.

And thanks all for your help on this one. I know for the next time fellas that when I have something wrong, I'll be sure to ask on here first about it before I go to the dealer. At least it will help me be more knowledgeable and may even help me save a buck or two! You guys are super helpful. :)

Crock IMO, the dealer would likely dispose of it as either hazardous waste, due to the fuel in the pump, or as scrap metal for which it would have value, too.

Do you see any other shiny new parts, like a relay under the hood on the firewall, or a new ignition switch?

I hadn't noticed when I got it but I'll have a look tonight.

I'd go directly to your dealer to discuss this in person with him. The whole, 'it's gone in the garbage' thing is just stupid. No one I know in a dealership would toss a valuable part like that, if for no other reason than someone could come looking for one, broken or not, and the dealer could send it out and have it repaired.
Plus they're obligated to show you what they did exactly; and if you find other new parts they didn't mention on your tractor, that would likely point directly to a covered up wrong initial diagnosis.

BTW, we're not trying to cause you any grief for what you did and spent, your logic makes sense knowing you're in *Canuck land and it's hard to deal with customs, S+H, etc.

I can say that*- I'm dual citizen!:dance1: And I love Canada, great country!

So health issues or not your dealer needs to come clean with you and show you the logic, apologize for not doing adequate road testing before sending it back to you and possibly offer the part/labor at reduced price since they seem to not be able to produce a very expensive part that belongs to you - to dispose of, NOT them, at the very least.

It is my experience that reasonable people confronted in a respectful manner will want to keep their existing customers happy. See where they will meet you on the issue and everyone may benefit from it, IMHO.

The horse is out of the barn on this one but you may be interested to know that brotsten repaired his IP for $52 in mail order parts. Not bad vs a $800 part. He also, posted photos showing the broken part and his invoice for the new parts. In case you don't know, the Bobcat tractor is a white Kioti with minor cosmetic changes.

Some of us (based on your symptoms) suspect your IP was not really broken. But (as you said) we'll never know now. As I understand US laws, you still have to pay if the mechanic replaces the wrong (non-defective) part but it is actionable to be charged for parts that were not replaced.

I hesitate to add your experience to my IP failure spreadsheet because I suspect your original IP did not fail.

Still, you now have a working tractor; that's a good thing.

Hi - I haven't had time to read all the talk on this thread, but I'll weigh in because I had the same problem a few years back. I have a 2006 DK45S and the only problem I ever had was with the injection pump. Apparently Kioti remanufactured a Bosch pump design. I've seen the Kioti version and they used plastic gears which tended to break down around 500-700 hours. I had the pump rebuilt ($900) and it failed within 2 hours after reinstallation. The dealer felt bad for me at that point and managed to get me a Kioti/Bosch replacement at no additional cost. I have about 1700 hours on my machine and I've never had another problem.
Installation did take a bit less than 2 hours, but like you... I had a leak. It was simple to fix, just tightened one of the fuel injectors where the mechanic was a bit sloppy.
