I previosly posted regarding a new gate entrance I was building. With the exception of hanging a sign on the horizontal post, I have completed the project. The first pic is the entrance and new gates I built. The second pic is a close up of the gates. The gates are made of 5/4 pressure treated decking wood.

Now don't go comparing my work with Harv's. I am just an amateur compared to Harv. However, I am very happy with the outcome.

It's about 30-35' off the road. The crossbar is 13' from the ground.

Jerry,

That's a very nice looking gate and entrance that you have there!! I especially like the way it frames your home when looking through it.

One thing that you might want to keep an eye on is the 5/4 decking. If you don't give it at least a month to air out, it will shrink on you something crazy. I don't know of another wood product that will change shape and size as dramatically as 5/4 PT decking.

TNhobbyfarmer,
I love the entrance. I saved the photo to remind me later, as it is something I have had in mind for a while, along with a log house.:D

Jerry,

I'm with Eddie on the 5/4 boards shrinking and warping once they are exposed to the sun. Over the years, I have found that it is beneficial to let the treated boards dry in the shaded area of a shop before installing them in the sun. Even with that method, there are several that want to twist out of shape enough to have to throw them back in a pile and hope they can be used on another project. Great looking entrance way to your place.

Key words, I am very happy with the outcome, thats all that matters.
From the comments you have received so far, everyone likes your project. Add me to that list. Great looking job!:)

The gate looks very good to me. When you come in, do you swing the gate inward and outward when you leave? If you swing inward, you might want to put a stopper post near the ends of both gate swings so the wind won't blow your gate. If you always swing the gate outward, it will stop against the fence, but inward it doesn't have a stopper.
