I have never liked the temp. gauge on my 1900. You never new how hot it was. I also didn't like just having an idiot light for the oil pressure. I bought a mechanical temp. and oil pressure gauge . The are 2" gauges made by Sunpro. These are cheap gauges but I have always had good luch with them. The temp probe on the new gauge fit in place of the factory sending unit without any adapters. I replaced the factory temp gauge in the dash with the new mechanical gauge. I used a 2" hole saw to cut a hole in the right side of the dash for the oil pressure gauge. I removed the factory sending unit and installed a T in the block and and hooked up the gauge to one side and the sendind unit for the idiot light to the other. I now know I have 40 psi of oil pressure at idle and the warmest I could get the engine in the shop was 165 deg. Every thing worked out good. I wish I would have done this several years ago.

Good job Bill, I never like idiot lights as well. I did have good luck with the sun pro as well.

Very Good Job, wish i could have done that with my Ford 4000. Found a Ferguson tach but the ford has limited space.

My Father had a shrimp boat with a Volvo TAMD60 it had volvo gauges for everything plus idiot lights for most plus buzzers as well.

I prefer gauges ( especially 270 degree sweep) and mechanical over electric to boot.

Are the threads in the block NPT or metric, I'd like to do the same thing.

I had been told by a very knowledgeable person(that I believe) that the threads are metric. I don't know what threads the temp prob for the mechanical gauge is but it screwed rite in. The threads on the oil pressure gauge fittings I know are 1/8 pipe. I screwed a 1/8 nipple in to the block added an 1/8 T and installed the idiot light sending unit on one side and the fitting for the oil pressure line on the other. If the threads in the block are not NPT they are something so close that pipe thread works. I warmed the tractor up to operating temd and had no leaks.

My 1700 has NPT taps. The Japanese tend to tap shallower than US mfg.s so you rarely get more than 1 rev into the block before they tighten. The maintenance guys at work have worked on Makino N/C machines (lots of hydraulics) which all pipe threads are NPT

I know this is kind of out of date but which sunpro gauge did your purchase for the temp. I had to replace the temp gauge on my tractor and the sensor will not fit, even with the adapters that came in the kit. But the guage does not show the right temp (I am guessing) because it warms up quick and then goes to hot (over 290) but the tractor does not seem hot.

I got mine off ebay. I think it was less than $25, works fine and fitting screwed right into block.

But what model number of kit did you get. My gauge fit the hole but sensor would not work. Would help to know what I was searching for on Ebay.

Thanks Mel

There is no kit, a mechanical gauge comes with the tubing already connected to back of gauge. Check this item # on ebay
021467082170 . This looks similar to what I used, cost $14.99, how can you beat that. I believe I did wrap Teflon tape around fittings when I screwed into block.
