New GC1715 - Its fine . . . and its mine.

They are rocks that I found with the excavator clearing trees. So they are already out of the ground. They are round rocks and most definitely bigger than 28 inches. I haven't measure them but they are good sized. I thought about using the carry all but my dad picked that up before I could try and pick it up with the three point. I saw ur remark about your forks attaching to the three point. Im uncertain if mine will do that. Im almost certain that my forks won't but I never looked at them that close and I'm not home right now to check. We already have flowers and bushes in the bed so Ill have to use an excavator to place them. When i tried lifting them, the back end came right off the ground even with the box blade attached.

I don't have a backhoe attachment b/c i didn't think id use it much. I also don't care for how they operate. Meaning I don't think they are very smooth atleast when compared to operating an excavator. Generally speaking anything I would need for the backhoe would most definitely require a decent sized mini excavator or larger.

How big are these rocks? Are they use flat thick rocks or more oval/round in shape? Greater than 28 inches thick? Any idea how heavy they are? Do they have to be taken out of the ground or are they on top of the ground? Do they have to be lifted up more than 3 feet or so?

Here is why I ask these specific questions. A backhoe like the cb65 can lift from low to ground level. It a rock grapple is a fel item and lifts from near ground level up to about 3 to 5 feet. If the rock is more than 700 to 800 pounds. . . Then forks or mini grapple on the fel won't handle it on a GC series (the gc1715 will lift more than the gc1705 . . . Same for backhoe on the 20 's. 10). A mini grapple is half the weight of the bucket and 30% lighter than the forks. . . but in either case it is closer to the pins so offers better leverage lifting advantage.

Not saying the GC could lift or move your rocks. . . but I am saying that with a certain implement it could move certain rocks better than your backhoe or bucket. Just a thought lol

Edgarrian,

I didn't plan on many uses for a backhoe either which is why I chose the gc1715. And for me that's been a very good decision because the weight and size of the backhoe would not work on my slope activities well and a very low and narrow weight unit on the 3pt is far preferred especially on sidehills and tight manuevering.

I note many tbn scut owners use box scrapers etc. for 3pt. weight and that would be very limiting for my activities and land setup.

If your rocks are round but much larger than 28 inches. . I can see where that could be a challenge for your fel. We have a long 5 foot high rock wall made from stacked quarry rock and you get humbled in a hurry when you and two other workers try to carry the small leftover ones and all the grunting lol (that was before I got the GC).

To place bigger round rock you'd either need to get it on your forks riding real close to the pins or if too heavy. . Something with a rock grapple that could set them in your beds from above. Pretty big marbles to roll lol.

Yea they are too big to roll and even with a grapple on my loader it would be too much. Oh well. they will look great once in the bed.
