It really is a different way to look at things...
Thats the main idea of sharing perspectives. I'm learning every day about US lifestyle, i also have a friend in Finland, where life, as well as culture is different that what we are used to in Holland. The general consensus of people i know, about American and Canadian work ethics, is that they may work long hours, but less efficient, they get the same things done in their longer (perhaps less stressful ??) work days.

Debating whose way of life is superior, is futile. We could only share perspectives and learn the good parts from each other. Hanging out on this site opens my eyes sometimes: in the field of conservative tillage methods, America is two decades ahead of us. In the field of road transport: Americans are a decade ahead of us with aluminium trailers: Europe is four decades ahead with trailer steering on oversized transport as well as city distribution trailers. In Europe, belt bottom trailers for aggregate and asphalt are just being imported from the USA and copied, while this development started in America 15 years ago.
Perhaps those who are willing, could learn from the European perspective i add to this site..

Even something as simple as going to a Home Depot at 7 pm on a Sunday was met with astonishment... the common reply is they couldn't pay people enough to work on Sundays in Austria...
Open stores on sunday evening is usual in the US, though most US presidents still say "God bless America"
I feel it as a blessing that in our secular Dutch state, Christians still have the freedom to keep a free sunday. ;)

Renze,

Out of curiosity , do you in Holland still all wear wooden shoes ? If so I will be glad to send you a pair of the ones we wear so you can copy those too.

No, 99% of the people dont. I happen to be an avid wearer, because wood gives a protection equal to steel toed workboots, absorb sweat in the summer, insulate in winter, and because they dont shut in your feet, the blood circulation is better. Oh, and the orthopedic shape of the footbed saves me buying orthotic inlays.
