I would suggest that, too. Look for a 1-2 yr old diesel. That way you get the allison, and it will have a ton of warranty left on it.

Either that, or wait a little longer. GM will probably be installing the 6.2L V-8 with over 400HP for the '09 model year. It's already in the Tahoe.

You can check here to see some of the changes for '09: http://www.gmfleet.com/pdf/2009_car_and_truck_guide.pdf

Go to the individual models and you'll see that the 6.2 is available only on the 1500 series trucks, but not on the 2500 or 3500 series.

i have a 07 1500 v-max 6.0 w/ dod i get about 13 mpg the same mpg as my 04 and 99 6.0 trucks not so happy with that. the wife has a 08 denali with the 6.2 and she gets 18 easy. in gm's defense i drive like a bat out of he11 and have 33" tires and 3" lift :D

I would imagine that you can get a pretty good deal on a new truck around july/august when the price of gas is $5 to $5.50 and diesel is $6.5 to $7.5. You could probably trade in a 15 year old honda civic and get the truck and money back...

Last fill was $120 in the truck and $75 for the car. I have a set of racks for the 10 speed on the way....

Tell ya what-now that Dodge has introduced the "2.99/gallon for 3 years" deal, don't count them out either. Now that diesel is $5/gal, that would save you $2,000/year for 3 years if you drive 15,000 miles and get 15/mpg.

Plus they have the lifetime drivetrain warranty.

Something to consider

The $2.99 a gallon is valid only up to 12,000 miles per year.

I have the NBS 2500 HD 2007. It hauls my M/F1531 backhoe fine,it has a built in controller, set the gain at 4.5 ,stops fine. I like the transmission temp. gauge to monitor transmission on long pulls. Tow mode has crisper shifts, when it is engaged. My 6.5 diesel pulls it with better mpg, but it has lift pump issues, the HD gets better mileage on highway, not as good as diesels, do a lot of local driving for morning coffee,so it uses it quick. Accessories can be hard to get aftermarket, unless you buy GM accessories. plowking
