I ended up buying a used 40' TopHat trailer with 2 - 12K axles. It has fairly new 14 ply tires, deck, and springs. It is actually a trailer that my son-in-law had purchased new in 2014. He sold it to a guy who sold it to a company who I bought it from.

TopHat is the brand that my local dealer sells, so I'm confident I can get parts easily.

I almost bought a newer trailer a few days ago, but when I looked at the VIN on the title, it was not the same as the VIN on the trailer, so I backed out of the deal.

I'm glad/lucky, because the trailer I ended up with will fit my needs/wants better, and was less money.

The GVWR is 25,900. I'm not sure the weight of the trailer, but I would think I could carry about 15-16,000 lbs on it.

So, a skid steer at 9000, and a tractor with loader at 6000 and one implement on the tractor, I should be close.

Yeah, my trailer is a 25+5 with 2-10k axles and it is heavy built with 14" I beam frame instead of 12" etc and it weighs a little more than 7k , the sticker on it says the GVWR is 24,900 but the way I always figured it was since I had 20,000k worth of axles minus 7,000 lbs for the weight of the trailer that left me with 13,000 lbs of capacity to be legal and while I am not always legal I try to stay close because I know I put some of that weight on the pin. If your trailer is 40' I bet it's pushing 9k weight wise.

This is why I wanted the 40’ trailer. I plan to go weigh this load at a local rice farmer just to see where we are at.

The truck weight like this is 15,370 lbs and the trailer axle weight is 20,000 lbs for a total of 35,370. This would probably be the heaviest I would ever load it. But I still need to shift some of the weight to the trailer axle, which I think can be done.
