Welcome. I once spent Thanksgiving in Cedar City just for kicks. I flew to Vegas and got rental car. I recall exploring a small ghost town out near Modena and spending my last day in Zion NP.

You may have gone to Old Irontown. It's Utah's first ghost town. It's 20 miles west of Cedar. I actually live in Irontown, along with a handful of other year-rounders. If it was Irontown, you'd remember the beehive shaped charcoal kiln down at the ruins. It's about a half-mile from my house.

I think I may have swung by there but the town I was thinking of is Gold Springs near the UT/NV state line. I heard they bulldozed a bunch of it years ago.

By Rockville/Springdale there is the ghost town Grafton. It's where a good bit of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed, like the scene where Paul Newman is riding the bicycle. Butch Cassidy is kind of a southern Utah local hero, by the way. He was born in Beaver, Utah and grew up in Circleville, Utah.

Yeah, there's not much left of Gold Springs. A few cabins and a couple barred up mine shafts and that's about it. I went for a ride out there a few years ago and there isn't much there.

Ahhhh thanks. Now I have “ Raindrops keep falling on my head “ stuck in my mind all day:laughing:
I can’t wait to come back to So UT. Love the dry climate, the mountains and green valleys.
It felt like a desert climate mixed with a mountain climate.
Another thing I couldn’t believe was how many older cars were 100% rust free!

Yeah, I'm fortunate to live here. I am actually a PA boy myself. My family are all up in the area north of Williamsport (Bradford and Tioga counties), but when my mom and dad divorced, she moved us out west to Utah. So, growing up I split my time between PA and Utah. PA is beautiful as well. But, it's gotten too crowded and the politics in Philly and Pittsburgh make me content to live here. If you ever get this way again let me know and my wife and I will play tour guide!

Strange how we easterners move out here to the high desert.... I grew up in Philly, then lived in Bucks and Lancaster counties before moving out here! I have mastered making Philly cheesesteaks, and the wifey has mastered making Philly soft pretzels!

I do miss the green grass, abundant waterways / streams, and big trees..... but definitely do not miss the congestion and humidity!
