My first tractor was a 110. How much too short is your lift rod? To make mine work (I bought the tractor in 1981 with mower deck, front blade and snowblower) I used two pieces of 1" wide 1/8" flat stock drilled on each end to make about a 2" long extension for the lift rod. The extension wasn't needed for the snowblower for some reason I never understood.

Hi Jerry,
If I am correct on where I think the clevis rod connects to the mower lift (not a given) it's a long way (16" +/-) to the blade. That's part on my problem. I see only one place to connect to the mower lift but maybe I am missing something. I am hoping that the blade install manual will set me straight.

I don't think you are missing anything. There is only one place to connect the lift rod, and that is on the arm of the mower lift shaft. I don't have any documentation on the blade itself, but the information Richard provided you is accurate. The only thing I would clarify in his response is that the manual assist spring he mentions is optional. I added one to my machine when I purchased the rear rototiller for it, but it's not necessary for the front blade or mower.

I suspect you have the wrong rod if it's 16" too short. I tried to look up a part number for you, but wasn't successful. I did find- in my original parts manual, that the front lift rod is not shown, but someone could easily confuse the rod that runs from the lift lever to the mower lift shaft with the one that goes all the way forward to the blade. If you can stop by a Deere dealer, you may find the rod you need costs less than you might think.

OK sorry about the delay, but still not feeling well, but took some photos that might help.

You guys are great - I think yankeerider had it right. The rod I have is probably the wrong rod - the fella I bought it from is getting up in years and may have just lost the right one. The pictures from Richard (Many thanks!) seem to confirm it. I need to spend a little more time poking around under the tractor with my newly acquired knowledge.

I will attach a picture (excuse the mess - clean up has not yet begun)

Andy,

I was going to attached the 110 owners manual here, but it appears that the file is too large.

PM me with your e-mail address. Will try it that way.

Richard

Hi Richard,

I sent you a PM (I think) - I am a rookie at the PM thing - let me know if you don't see anything.

Cheers

A big thank you to Richard who took the time and trouble to get me a PDF of the blade manual showing the installation. It confirmed I am missing a connecting rod. Knowing that, and seeing how it connects, solves my issue (at least once I track down or just make up the rod!)

Cheers
Andy
