The hour meter on my 240D rolls over at 999, but judging by wear and tear and general condition I would say about 1700 hrs on it. still runs like a top, uses no oil and runs no higher than 170 degrees no matter how hard I work it.

Ridge, a diesel engine can last a long time, I doubt any will make it to 8-10k hours without some repair or rebuild even with strict maintenance.

The ones rebuilt before 2,000 hours are probably neglected, abused and have been overheated at some point. I have 800 hours on mine with nothing needing repaired/replaced but a shifter spring, I do change the oil /filter at 50 hours, fuel filter every spring, new air filter every other spring, hydraulic fluid every 300 hours, I know the manual states the intervals to be longer but I think its cheap insurance to keep the fluids fresh.

My FX24D dropped a valve at ~1200 Hrs and tore up a cyl. and piston. Not your normal failure.

Unless you bought your tractor new or have a "0000.0" odometer, And not a Vn reman, there is no way to know.

I was a Maintence Manager at a trucking company for 26 yrs a few years back and we seen most of our engines (Detroit) run approx. 26k to 34k hrs before overhaul, if we changed a head gasket in the 22k hr or more we would normally overhaul it as we had 12 hrs of the 40 already into it. i know the small engines are different but i wasn't sure to what degree. We also oil sampled every change approx. 370-400 hrs (19000-22000 miles) it would vary if the driver would stay out on the road longer than normal.

Ridge you may also want to note that on most Yanmars a hour on the meter is a hour at a specified RPM. I think on mine it is 2600 RPM. So it would have to idle at 1000 RPM for 2.6 hours to register 1 hour on the meter.

Ah, that i didn't know, our trucks are all electronic, we would plug a Laptop in them and we could tell what the driver was doing anytime the key was on, and even the outside temp

I just put money down on a YMG1800D, hopefully I made the right choice, I could of had a YM1720D with powershift for same price and close hrs. (500)but I like to keep it simple. We are waiting 4 weeks to pick it up as we are moving to a different area and don't need it where we are now.
