New guy with a 1641, running rich?

Just picked up a nice little 1641. Only issue I see so far is it seems to run a bit rich, I smell like fumes after running it in the barn for just a minute or two. Can the fuel solenoid be cleaned and is there any other things i should check? New to these things, but slowly learning!

How about a picture of the top of the carb with filter etc removed. I want to see if there are small jets at the top of the carb . If there are and dirt gets on them the fuel circuits go rich.

Crankcase vent hose going into carb intake on an older engine can coat these jets with an oily residue attracting dirt.
