This is almost funny. After a summer of eating his meat and potatoes, my son finally grew heavy enough to satisfy the weight requirement of the seat switch on our 5740HST. So Saturday I let him drive it for the first time. I let him pull it into our sheet metal barn to park it. I warned him about how the FEL can be tricky to watch on turns. I walked along side and coached him as he *carefully* pulled it into the barn, masterfully avoiding the bounds of the door. He *carefully* pulled into its spot--then decided to give it one more little nudge--right thru the back wall of the barn. He only really made a small 3" puncture from one corner of the FEL.
The humor came from the fact that he had just spent his entire afternoon helping his grandpa fix ALL of the previous "oops" holes that had occurred over the years. He was just proudly showing me his accomplishment when he asked if he could try the seat switch for the 43rd time since we got the tractor.

Great story, I am past the point of making a big deal about others misgivings as I have certainly experienced my share. There was a lesson learned and the cost was not so much. Sounds like you've got a great kid there so that makes two of us. All the best.

Great story. Good lesson...almost everyone with a FEL has gotten a lesson in depth perception:thumbsup:

Nice story, thanks for sharing. It's a story that I'm sure will get told many times over the years. And, for a tractor boo boo it's a low pain incident!

I too have done some damage with both ends of tractors over the years. Many years ago I had an 8N with no over-ride clutch between the tractor and the Bushhog. I was warned but kept using it that way (when you're young you're ten feet tall and bulletproof).

One day I was shoved right through a fence by the flywheel effect. I learned my lesson the hard way that day.

Good story, thanks for sharing. As long as nobody got hurt, it is just a memory in making.

You're a good dad...I like your "oh well" approach...Your son is adding to his school of hard knocks.

Lesson learned. He knows better now. I 'pressed' the exterior wall of my house with a compact track hoe. Wood frame busted trim board, inside broke sheet rock wall from the bowing. Lesson learned for me as well.

Tractors and fork-lifts make about the same type holes, or damage garage doors. Extreme care and vigulance to prevent accidents. Jy.
