I have a 1997 1715. We have a coil display on the dash for the glow plugs. If that coil breaks does that disable the glow plugs when turned on for cold start??
thanks

I have no idea, but, it seems that if the glow plugs still worked than that light on the dash in not an indicator light. It would simply be decrotive.

Normally a light on the dash is only a reference indicator to let driver know something. It will not effect the operation of the item it is representing; Check light to see if it is burned out; pull dash (2 screws I think) check bulb.
If tractor still starts ( hold key in glow plug position as normal and count to 10 to allow them to heat.) If it starts glow plugs are working. If it does not start - no glow plugs.

Thanks for all the help. Went to the New Holland dealer and he said the glow coil would not cause glow plugs not to work. I got home and checked the wiring and had no power to glow plugs. I jumpered over the legs of the glow coil (light) and fixed the problem. Now just need to order a new glow coil (light) not sure of terminology and everything will be as before.

My 1720 has an idiot light to show I have the glow plugs on. It times out after 4 seconds, I believe the manual said, but in real cold weather you can leave it on longer.

Now, my BiL's older Kubota tractor has a little coil spring deal that you can see through a plate in the dash. As you hold the glow plugs on, that coil starts to glow red, and you know how long/ hot the glow plugs would be. It looks like a toaster or electric oven coil, sorta.

From your description, sounds like you have that glowing coil deal, & not an idiot light? I would suspect the idiot light don't matter if it don't work, and that the glowing coil of wire does matter.
