This is a continuation of the post on the 48250 hydraulic cylinder that Rhino used on many of it backhoe attachments they made for others. As I stated I was told that this cylinder has been discontinued. So I researched, found, ordered, and received a New aftermarket Bobcat excavator bucket cylinder #7148268 that when stroked is .003 of an inch longer. I ordered the cylinder from Hydraulic Cylinders for 585 plus shipping. Was pleasantly surprised to see a made in America sticker on it. The cylinder is larger, bore is .5 bigger, outside diameter is .75 bigger and the rod is 1.75 in diameter. On the cylinder case end I had to grind two flats, removing .375 off each side and stayed a minimum of .125 below the edge of weld. The pin hole I was told were 1.5 and 1.375. Turned out the rod end had a brass bushing making it 1.375. When removed the hole are 1.57 +-. Found brass bushings 1 9/16 x 1 1/4 x 2 1/2 at Zoro. Either an adapter to go from 9/16 18jic fitting to a 8jic fitting on the new cylinder. I opted to have two short transition hoses made. Added six shim washer on the rod to bucket pin. The cylinder has a post I would assume for hanger for the hose, I mounted the rubber guts of a VW TDI motor mount to act as a bumper. I have since dug up four trees, the bucket does have more power to curl and cut/pull thru roots. This was definitely cheaper than a rod/head/kit would have costed plus the labor to reassemble and made for a much better application. I don稚 think the bigger cylinder will impact the backhoe integrity as the unit is easily pulled by the existing hydraulics. The cylinder was plenty of clearance from the boom and doe not contact it at anytime during its stroke

It is coming up on a year since I replaced the New Holland bucket cylinder on this 758C. Finding the Bobcat cylinder was a stroke of luck since the NH is obsolete, as it was the only one I found that gave the stroke dimensions and they matched the new Holland/case/rhino. I have dug up additional 60 -70 large sweet gums without a problem with this cylinder. It is now capable of pulling through roots that it could not before. It also has enough power to lift and pull the tractor out of the several mud holes my wife has gotten into. The last one I could have changed all four tires with out a jack.
The swing cylinder which is also obsolete is doing great. I broke the top pivot pin which is part of the one piece trunnion that also has the bottom pivot. After looking at it and deciding that welding it would produce too much heat I took it to a machine shop and had the old section milled out and a new round piece pressed in.
The changing of the power steering filter by eliminating the old expensive filter and mounting a new system has worked great. An early problem was solved by reducing the amount of oil in the expansion tank which is mounted after the filter and teed into the line going to the pump. That new filter cost about 8 bucks and I change it with every major hydraulic oil change.

I got a slight revision to this installation. Having a wife that can move the holes on a bowling ball, she kept mangling the hose connection to the cylinder on the bottom. I took a piece of two inch tube stock 6+ inches long and cut one side end to clear around the weld of the cylinder fitting. Then cut two slots up on the other so I could use hose clamp to secure. Ran the hose thru the tube and secured. Been almost two months with no problems.

Sounds like your tractor and backhoe have served you well with your repair.

Been three years with this replacement and have had zero problems with the cylinder. Running the hose thru the tube stock shows little damage from the abuse it has recieved and has saved me time and money having to replace broken ends of the hose connection. We have dug up more than a hundred sweet gum trees with this tractor that had a base measurement of 16"-30". Yes we have put the tractor thru hell. I will tell you if you make this replacement make sure you look and all the pivot point welds on the arms as I found the factory holes to be oblong on some and the mig gun welding to be very thin and ended up re-welding them. Wife did manage to put the sleeve out of the end of the arm for the bucket. Ended up making two link looking pieces that went around the both the bucket pins with 3/8" stock and welded them completely in.
