New Holland RoW tractor with massive Brown bush hog

While driving back from my hunt club today, I came across this New Holland tractor that belonged to Davey Tree. It was doing RoW maintainence along with a Timberjack delimber tractor with a boom bucket. I'll do a separate thread on the Timberjack, makes it easier to keep up.

First off, this one is in obvious need of some new front tires! Maybe Santa will bring them a set?? The mower deck is a massive Brown unit that I would estimate weighs a ton, more or less. The gearbox was stamped made in Italy, I think I read somewhere they are rated for about 165hp. Not sure what hp the tractor but would guess 110hp, it is a turbo model.

The neat thing about this mower deck is that the rear foot and a half could be raised up by two hydraulic cylinders when needed. I guess the main purpose is too give the bigger chunks of wood an easy to get out from under the deck, but when lowered down it could allow the blades to produce a finer mulch of the smaller stuff. Wonder why it has no rear tailwheel?? Don't need it???? Pretty obvious the rear tires are loaded on this one. This tractor is also equipped with a pretty stout winch on the front end too. It was working with a Timberjack delimber tractor with a boom bucket that was parked a hundred yards away. I'll do a separate thread on it.

That is a beastly looking set up. I looked at a Brown Tree cutter before and the back raises to allow you to back into heavier stuff like smaller trees and thrash them down.:thumbsup:

That is a beastly looking set up. I looked at a Brown Tree cutter before and the back raises to allow you to back into heavier stuff like smaller trees and thrash them down.:thumbsup:

Hey, thanks for that bit of info! It never occurred to me that was the purpose of the hinged section on the mower deck. The video posted by another poster confirms it, so I learned something today.


That's pretty slick, but it seems like the trees always fall towards the tractor. Maybe if the operator were to start lowering the rear section just before the blade cuts completely through the tree, it would push the tree in the opposite direction? Just a thought.....

I have the 5' model with the springs and the biggest tree I cut was a 8" sweet gum and it fell right on my FOPS, no damage done. The 4 blades are shapped likes axe blades that "chop".

check out treetrader.com might be some used row tractors there. Ironplanet.com is a place to check for auctions. You can always check your local machinery trader, too, if they have one.

Might not hurt to look online to see if you state/city/county has a surplus equipment auction or sale site.

There is a kubota m108s set up like that NH. It is sitting on the lot at Perrin farm equipment in Tifton, Ga. I have spoken with the owner of the machine. I think it was his personal tractor so it hasn't been abused.
