No i did not. I do not have a manual at this time and I really am not familiar with that procedure, i do however understand why its important and the general idea of what you would try to accomplish with this test.

If you really understood the importance of injection timing you would have spill timed it in conjunction with the new pump installation. And would not now be asking about knocking.

Do you STILL have your old pump or did they keep it as an exchange??
I need to compare the pump #'s to see if the parts inside are compatable/the same & what the maximum output of each pump is..
ITS POSSIBLE to have the same pump on several different engines & the max output is a separate screw adjustment on THAT engine.. set by the factory & sealed..
BUT.. w/o #'s.. I'm/your pizzin in the wind..

Yes, I still have my old pump, thanks for your help in cross referencing these pumps. I took a few photos this morning, the first 3 photos are of my original pump and the last 3 are the new pump. I took photos of the numbers but I will also spell them out here for you in case you cannot read them in the photos.

Original Pump (disassembled in photos) - 54020 (side with zexel stamped) 08118 (other side)

New Pump (installed in photos) - 44060 (side with zexel stamped) 00831 (other side)

If you all could help me with the spill time procedure I would appreciate that as well.

I called around a few places today that perform diesel injection services and they recommended that I get my injectors tested and then go back and use either my original reman pump or a new pump. Spencer Diesel has the new pump available and I am leaning towards that solution.

Spencer Diesel Part SD FN 104135-4020

HOLY SH**.. 1000.00?? I do them all day for 100.00 a cylinder!! BUT that's IF the pump hasn't been taken apart.
Take that pump back where you got it & send the old one to me..
along w/ the injectors.. I'll give you an estimate WAY LESS than 1000.00..!!!
I compared the parts, & the plungers & barrels ARE NOT the same.. The delivery vales & holders are..

Update: I got my original injection pump and injectors tested and rebuilt, then installed them yesterday. I bled the lines, installed a new fuel filter, added new engine oil (to lubricate the cylinders) and added K-100 to the tank of fuel. The tractor started very easily but still had the loud knock and was rolling out a mix of white and blue smoke for the first minute or so. The knock increases and decreases with the throttle lever, I also tried cracking each injector line to see if that made a difference and while each cylinder would be affected by this, the knocking was not. Any help from here is appreciated, I am thinking I need to start tearing into the engine to look for rod, bearing, crank failure at this point. I feel my fuel problem may be solved and now I need to move on to internal failures.

.. the pump & injectors ARE in factory condition..
You'll probably find a rod brg has spun, by dropping the oil pan.. you "might" get lucky & loosen the cap & just roll another in its place.??
BE SURE & mark the position of the rod cap before removal.. there is a left & right side..
I ALWAYS "punch" them w/ the cyl. #.. 1 on the rod & 1 on the cap.. 2 on the next rod, 2 on the next cap and so on..
Keeps you outta trouble that way.. sorry to hear about your troubles.. TPG
