NEW HOLLAND TC45D WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 4X4

Good afternoon all.
I have a TC45D NEW HOLLAND and it has set for a bit. It would shift into four-wheel-drive when I parked it but now the shifter will not budge and I feel that if I force it, it will bend the shifter. I am also having trouble with shifting the PTO. My dealer tells me to track the linkage and make sure all moving parts are freed and to hit them with PBblaster. Will try that this afternoon. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a better fix? Thanks in advance for the help.

You can try shifting with the engine running and with it stopped. Try 4WD and PTO alternately before and after shifting into and out of gear. Sometimes gear alignment is such that you can't shift. Doing something to move gears around a bit may help. If the engine is stopped you can even try it alternating clutch in and clutch out. I wouldn't force anything but take a little time working stuff.

You can lower the bucket (if you have a front end loader) to raise the front wheels off the ground, freeing them which allows an easier shift to and from 4x4.

I second what Ford850 said. My TYM 273 was difficult to shift in/out of 4x4 but after I read about using the loader to raise the front end; tried it and it works like a charm!!

The 4wd lever on my 40hp has always been stiff. It works okay if I snap it up or down as opposed to a constant force. Also, I some times do it while rolling.

The dealer is correct....spray the shafts going into the cases with lube.

probably insufficient lubrication/rust from sitting too long, especially if stored outside without cover..
