If you are going to own machinery, you are going to have to figure out how to manage breakdowns, downtime and repair cost. No getting around any of that.

Expecting machines to perform flawlessly on an indefinite basis is a recipe for disappointment. If you haven't had a major breakdown in 45 years given the extensive list of machines owned in your profile, you are either very lucky, or you don't use most of it very often.

I feel lucky, and also use good oil and service the equipment religiously. My spare time is spent maintaining my equipment, much to the chagrin of my wife. I really believe the newer machines are just slapped together to get them out to the sales lot and built to get out of the warranty period and buyer beware... I expect breakdowns, I use a formula for determining the replacement cost ( from Oklahoma State Univ. ) of equipment in order to price my hay at a level to be able to pay for repairs and new or newer equipment. This NH has already cost more than 10 years of repairs on any of the other equipment. The former owner must have really abused it... As I stated earlier, I suspect that it was used by a highway mowing contractor. There should be a means to find out how a tractor was used and who the former owner was. The price of a tractor is more than a car or truck, so why would there not be a tractorfax just as there is a carfax.

Again, I thank you for your participation in this forum, and you have answered some questions I had on this tractor before. I hope you understand my point of view, I don't need a career project tractor. I am restoring a 7030 Allis to replace this tractor, I may have to lose 50lbs to get into the cab easier, but that would cost less than the NH.....

2 weeks ago the TS110 was sent to the Dealer in Chickasha, OK. The retired dealer mechanic did not seem to be interested in working on this after he agreed to do it. On Monaday of this week the tractor was split and found no problems. Tuesday, the service manager called to tell me that they had pulled the valve cover and the engine had dropped a valve. I advised them to install the new drive plate I had furnished and to put the tractor back together and I would pick it up. I hav ordered the parts for an in-frame overhaul. The tractor did not use any oil when running 14 hour days pulling my baler, but if a piston has to be replaced, I might as well install a new set of rings. The service manager said that given the stickers on the tractor from a previous dealer, the hour meter was no doubt a percentage of the actual hours on the tractor.

I will be replacing the entire valve train. This is the emissioned engine, I have no idea what was changed over the non-emissioned one, and if that may be the reason it dropped a valve. I should have mentioned in earlier posts that the inj pump shop said that the inj pump looked like someone had tried to turn the pump up. This was due to something that had broken in the pump. It looks like this may just be due to metal fatigue and the hourmeter should not be relied upon for any estimation in the life left in the tractor.

I do not want to get on a soapbox here, but tractors cost many times more than vehicles or ATV's. No title is issued on tractors, A title would require that the owner be registered and allow a buyer to know where the tractor was used and possibly what service it had. Carfax is a joke as far as I am concerned, but when I have contacted the original selling dealer of this tractor, they cannot tell me where this tractor went. I have contacted the factory and they cannot or maybe will not tell me who the original owner was. The trouble with issuing a title is that the state will jump on it to get some more money in taxes. A modest titling fee would be well worth the money......

And if you knew the ownership history of that tractor from day 1 until you bought it, exactly what would you gain? There isn't a data base in the world that will provide complete service records on motor vehicles, let alone farm machinery. Previous owners have no obligation to reveal service records or other info under any circumstances. You may not think you want to get on a soapbox, but you have been on one since the first post. Please fix your tractor and move on.

I would know whether to trust the dealer I bought it from.

There isn't a data base in the world that will provide complete service records on motor vehicles, let alone farm machinery.

I never said there was, however, there are laws against turning back the mileage on vehicles. Shouldn't this also apply to farm equipment?

Previous owners have no obligation to reveal service records or other info under any circumstances.

I did not suggest that the knowledge of prior ownership would reveal the service records, only give the reviewer some insight into what to expect in the way of repairs.

You may not think you want to get on a soapbox, but you have been on one since the first post.

I beg your pardon, that was not my intent. I do respect your knowledge on these tractors, but I do not appreciate the tone of your post. I cannot afford to throw away $40,000+, perhaps you can. If so I salute you. Have you ever had to track down a stolen tractor? Stolen farm equipment is an excellent source of income for criminals here due to no means of tracing the ownership.

I have so far spent $45,000 on this $35,000 tractor. The parts are ordered to do an in-frame overhaul including a complete valve train when it returns. I would appreciate knowing what the difference is in the emissioned vs. the non-emissioned tractors.

I will fix my tractor and move on, not because you told me to, but because it has to be repaired to sell it. My situation is I don't have enough years left to recoup what this machine has cost me.
