Buying Advice New Holland Workmaster - Anyone got an opinion?

Do not confuse the TT (Mexico) with the older TTA and now Workmaster/Farmall from India as they are not the same tractors. With that said, the older TT units did share some components, but I would not say that the TTA units were based on the TT.

The WM/Farmall 45/55 models have the shuttle with inboard planetary. The engines are Shibaura and barrowed from the larger compacts. The 65/75 still have the external bull gears (planetary) and use the Iveco engines.

These tractors are built with the price in mind and whether you prefer to move up to the next class should be based on personal preference and not performance or quality.

The FWD axles are similar to the axles used on the old TN units I believe and are built in Turkey and shipped to India. The same can be said for the WM styling.

No sir, the 45, 55, 65 and 75 Workmaster/Farmall tractors are built in India. As I mentioned, the engines and FWD axles are imported.

It seems like people are spoiled these days. I remember using a Ford 801 and an Allis Chalmers WD for 80 acres of hay farming, logging, and everything else on the farm. Now it seems like people need 100+ HP, cab, AC, and 4wd to do the same thing. Seems like a lot of money wasted.
The Workmasters seem like a good idea.
One question I do have is where the rear end on the Workmasters and TT series came from, with the planetary drive or whatever it's called. Ford never had those in the past.

I could be wrong, but the drivetrain on these Hesstons looks all the world identical to the one on my TT75A. I'm thinking CNH hung on to this patent and incorporated it into the TT, TTA, and subsequent workmasters.

no sir not even close. all the tractors are still made in India. nothing in the line of work master is made in Mexico. only the loaders for the boomers, TS6 series, and the new compact cab tractors are made in Mexico. The only real change in the Work master series from the TT-A series is the shuttle shift tranny in the 45 adn 55, draft control on the 55, and the standard equipment rear remote on all of them........the 65 and 75 do have a different motor from years past. a lot better.

I looked closely at a 55 for over an hour and Shibaura is all over the engine. The rest of the tractor as well is heavily Japanese component based. India could have been the final assembly point for them. Am I correct in saying that the 45 and 55 transmissions are not synchronized? Their website seems to indicate that. Really, it looked like a good tractor for someone just looking to run a bushog or plow a small garden.

Hello. Just want to say that I bought a new WM65 back in the spring and have nearly 100 hours on it. It is a good solid little tractor for the money.

I am no rookie, grew up driving the old John Deeres (2950, 4430 etc) for a row crop farmer, so I know what a good tractor is.

This is a fairly well built machine. Will it last 10,000 hours like the John Deere's I named off above? Probably not. But, the John Deere economy tractors I looked at wouldn't either I bet.

My only irritation with it is the transmission whine due to the straight cut reduction gears in he rear end. But, so far I like it.

If anyone will find out how long these tractors will run it will be me and my workmaster 75. Just under 1400 hours in the 18 months that I have had it. So ask me if its still running in 10 years.

The Workmaster transmission is synchronized in third and fourth/seventh and eighth ONLY.

Any repairs needed thus far?

The hydrulic pump was replaced under warranty cause it was not installed right and other than that I had a mouse build a nest under the dash and chewed some wires so the fuel gauge didnt work.
