I have had one of those days!

Yesterday, the ranch manager of the adjacent property stops in to brag about his new rear finish mower. So, I drive over to his shop and look at a very nice John Deere 6' RFM. He tells me how great it cuts and he loves using it for his yard. Suddenly a light goes on in my head! I could use an RFM!

I go home, start the MTD riding mower and watch is spew blue smoke. After 5 minutes the smoke stops, and I realize my 9 year old mower has oil leaking around the rings. After mowing is started sputtering strangely, and my wife thinks it would be a good idea to get a RFM!!

Today, I go looking for an RFM and find a King Kutter 6'. Not as nice as the John Deere, but the price is right and it would fit my needs. After a day of looking, I get home around 3 and start lubricating and attaching the new implement. As I am attaching the implement to the 3 pt, my wife comes out and starts asking me a ton of questions about the location of some of her gardening items. She distracted me long enough to mess up. I lifted my 3 pt and did not have the RFM aligned properly, so the stabilizer hit the BH-90 mount and it bent at a 40 degree angle! Do you know how hard it is to get this off when it is bent and there is an implement connected? I take the bent stabilizer to my neighbor who has a 20 ton press. He straightens it out, and I head home. As I am re-assembling this, I have a hard time attaching the adjustable upper lift arm to the lower lift arm. I finally get is connected, but the lower lift arm does not seem to be vertical enough to allow the upper arm to attach easily.

After all this work, I finally start mowing the front pasture wit the new RFM. WOW! My front pasture looks like a golf course. I used to mow with a 5' rotary cutter, and the difference is amazing. I finally have a mower that is a littler wider than my rear tires, and I get done much faster. The L4330's HP makes mowing with a 6' RFM a breeze. As I am half way complete, the low fuel light comes on, and I have no fuel on the property. Now I have to stop and go get diesel fuel! At this point I am feeling like I will never finish!

After all my problems, my front pasture looks great, although, I wonder what I did to my lower arm. I don't know if a 20 Ton press could fix that large chunk of metal.

I can't complain too much, I got some tractor time between fuel and repairs.

Hey Joe!
Congrats on your RFM. Any way you could post a pic of the damaged area?
I don't understand how in the world you could bend the BH mount like that. I"ve had my RFM a little cockeyed but when I raise it a bit it straightens itself right out, but it does not have enough pressure to bend anything of substance.

Hi Moon,

Actually I bent the stabilizer arm off the three point hitch when it hit the BH-90 mount. The BH-90 mount had no damage, but the stabilizer on the three point made contact as I was lifting the 3 point. Now the lower arm seems to be out of whack too. Almost like it cocked it from vertical to 10 degrees off vertical. I will try to get a picture sometime this evening.

Thanks,

Joe

So how much oil did you have to put in the murys gas to make the wife think it was going bad?
