new JD 2520 questions

I find the same thing on mine... A little "tap" of one of the hydro pedals and it seems to align the gears nicely. I am able to park overnight on a flat, level surface. I park, set the brake, and leave it in gear. When I go to start in the morning, that's when I take it out of gear and unset the brake (I keep my foot firmly on the brake, though). I find that I seldom have an issue getting it to pop into gear smoothly that way since the gears don't have a chance to come out of alignment.

I appreciate this information. My 2720 will be delivered tomorrow afternoon.

How do you like your 2520 compared to the 955 so far? I'm going from an 855 to a 2520. Tractor is being delivered this week.

This isn't my thread, and I can't make comparisons for you... But... I would suspect that you will find the feel of the 2520 to be "much bigger" when mowing unless you pull the FEL off. With no FEL mounted, I would imagine that you'll realize it's bigger, but adapt very quickly to the larger size. I'm actually impressed that it's so maneuverable for such a large piece of equipment.

Mine won't have the FEL. I have a bobcat, backhoe, and a 7130 with a FEL. It's got a 72"mmm, going to get a tiller, and already have a sprayer. Also will use it to run an auger if we fill our barn with corn this fall, and run my pto generator when the power goes out.

Tried a different method for starting: turned on the key and listened to the ticking until the little light went out, put the throttle only at idle, and this cold start only had a puff of blue smoke. Thanks for all of the tips.

in response to 955 vs 2520. They feel very similiar. The 955 is a sweet tractor and has more power and stronger loader then the 2520. But the quick attach is already winning me over and since I bought teh 955 used, there is something about breaking in a new tractor and knowing its history that is satisfying.

I think that's actually what's prescribed in the manual for a procedure. And, that's the exact process my dealer showed me. So, you're definitely on the right path.
