New JD 4100 owner....what engine oil to use?

I just inherited a JD 4100 tractor. I want to give it a good starting point by changing all of the fluids and filters. I've already ordered the JD filter pack kit with the air, oil, fuel, and hydraulic filters.....but I'm wondering what type of engine oil should use. Should I stick with the JD brand oil and weight that is specified in the manual, or will the Rotella 15w-40 that I use in everything else be a good oil for my "new to me" 4100?

I have used Rotella 15-40 in my John Deere tractors for years and have had no problems. It's an excellent oil.

Be better in the winter with the Rotella 5w40. Actually, it'll reduce wear to overhead valve area all year round by getting the oil up there quicker. Most wear occurs on startup, and that's when the (low)wxx oil helps a lot. It's what I used in my 4010 and 1025. Probably will use it in the 2025 if not the Mobil 1.

I found a Mobil 1 5w40 for diesels, too. Plan to use it in my generator when it ever gets to 50 hours.

C'Mon, man. Don't leave us hanging in the other thread. You should update us over there and let us know you got the tractor. It's fun when someone gets a new machine. Especially when it'sit'sit'sit's handed down through the family.
