I am new to this forum. I just picked up my tractor yesterday. I bought a 96 JD 855 with 306 hours on it. It came with a 5 ft King Kutter finish mower. I put a couple hours on it as soon as I go it home and it works great.

After I made the deal with the guy, he informed me he had a used 5' grader box, 4' grader blade, and a well used 6" post hole digger that he would sell me for $300 for all. I need to go back this week and look at those items better. Any thoughts on these items?

I want to get a front end loader for it. The tractors already has the valve and hose connections for one. Any recommendations on brand, size, and prices?

I will mainly use this tractor to take care of 4 acres I mow. I also will need a post hole digger and a FEL for now.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the TBN and Congratulations on your recent purchase. I would think that unless your going to be using those other attachments "commercially every day" they are more then likely (brand unknown) more then good enough for homeowner type use and that $300 for all of them is a great deal, and I would most likely grab them in a heart beat.
If the owner of the tractor took reasonable care of it, then the attachments are probably in compareable shape.
Let us know how you make out.

Welcome,
Nice to see other retired military folks on this outstanding forum. If you would fill in details in your profile you will find that the advice you get will be much more specific to your requirements. I have had two JD FEL's in the last 6 years and have been most pleased with their performance. I have no experience with other brands, however, I think you will find that the JD FEL's are exceedingly easy to install and remove, as required. Additionally, you can be assured that the tractor will be color coordinated /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

usafretired,

Welcome to TBN and congrats on your new tractor.

I also have a 96 855 with nice low hours on it. I think you'll be very pleased with your machine. Mine has done all I have asked without even the slightest complaint. I would jump on the attachments if I were you - even if they aren't the "top" brands - the price for 3 more tools is really good. Your machine will handle that 5 foot box blade no problem. I would also get the loader as soon as possible as most TBN'ers find them to be the most often used implement.

Welcome!

usafretired,

For $300.00 take the three and run. If you get two pieces of equipment out of the three then you are still money ahead.

usafretired,

The loader that your new tractor would have come with had it been ordered was the 70A. You might be able to find one out there somewhere on the web by searching. A couple of weeks ago I saw on ebay all the pieces for a 70A loader minus the hydraulics.

Several members out here have purchased loaders made by Woods (I think) and are very happy with them. I have the 70A on my 855 so I haven't looked into any others. If you have tractor questions this is the place to find the answer. Besides the 855 is a personal favorite of mine /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I called the guy back and told him I would pick up the other items this Saturday. The grader box was a King Kutter from TSC and it alone is worth the $300.

I assume thats where he got all these items at. If I remember correctly, the auger gear box was around $340 at TSC, so I am not going to pass up buying all 3 pieces for the $300.

I used the finish mower as soon as I got home. The tractor runs great and I mowed the back field in a new record time. LOL

Thanks

Pat,
Excellant decision to grab all 3. I would say you got the deal of the day. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Besides they are a little to small for my tractor and Kentucky would have been a bit of a drive for me. But I'da been tempted. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Thanks for saving me the trip /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
