Only 3 months old, 25 hours. I'll have to carefully remove the barn and see if anything is salvageable.

And the new tractor barn will be ready in about 2 weeks...
:(:(:(:(:(:(

Oh wow, sorry to see that. Did the shelter collapse under the weight of all the snow/ice you guys are getting?

Ouch, that is a painful picture to look at!!! is that sort of stuff covered under most homeowners insurance policys?

Sorry for the situation Pete. I would say you had a bad day there. It can be made as good as new though. Hard to take but money (hopefully insurance companies) and time can fix it. Still a bummer though.

Pete,
Very sorry to see this happen to your new tractor. Hope you have insurance for this. If not that is alot of glass and body parts to replace but bear in mind the cab rops is built for rollover protection so I would doubt the cab structure is damaged. really hate to see this.:(

No problem...some duct tape and buffing, it'll look like a real tractor.

Seriously, once you clear the debris, I'll wager you'll drive the tractor out of there. Looks like most the damage is cosmetic.
Well, was the machine insured through the financing? Otherwise, your home owner's insurance should cover the damage.
Doesn't look like enough snow or ice on the roof to bring the building down...my guess is wind. But I'm sure eepete will enlighten us.

Fortunately, when I got it I called my agent and made sure it was covered by my policy. So yes, and they should have a record that I inquired.

It was the snow and ice and a bit of wind. Now to get the heavy stuff off so there is no more damage, and get a tarp over it before the Tuesday rain. If it can't be fixed, it's a heck of parts tractor. One radiator busted, but engine area untouched. All wiring harnesses intact, tires good. I was out on a fire call when it went, my wife said the noise was something and it went on for a bit, not just a bang. So that might be why it settled on the tractor and did what it did.
The whole barn fell horizontally, and what hit the tractor was a shed room on the side. The main cedar beam hit the ROPS post. The PHD and sickle mower also provided a 3-point support for the barn. So if the frame was not bent (the cab has some tilt to it, but that might be the rubber supports under that weight) who knows.

Good testimony for the strength and value of ROPS/FOPS on a cab tractor!

So no one hurt, insurance should cover it, big clean up, careful salvage operation today and tomorrow after a really bad nights sleep (saw it when I got back from the call around 11:00 PM).

It still sucks.

Oh man,I'll bet your heart was in your stomach, when you saw that:( Hopefully like RoyJackson stated it is mainly cosmetic, and your homeowners will surely cover that:)

Well Roy, at least I don't have to worry about that 1st scratch any more. I might need a few more rolls of duct tape. The busted radiator connection means it's a no drive out, but as you can see the damage does look cosmetic.

Steve, since two of the glass panels are intact, I'm hoping the cab structure is intact. Amazing the strength it has!

Dex, I have a friend who says "It's not a problem if it can be solved with money". So I'm hoping the insurance company will be OK with this.

Kennyd: +100 on the Ouch.

All: thanks for the concern. As I tear it apart I might learn what the problem was, but I suspect just old age and too much load. My challenge now is to get the structure off it without doing any more damage to the tractor or myself. It will take the assistance of my Kubota B21 to save the Deere. Will call for some help, seems like a bad area to be operating in solo.

I think I would get the agent out there before moving that stuff. That looks like alot of damage from all the pics. That front cooler is for the intake air, sure wouldn't want to try and start it and pick up any trash in the motor.

Wish I was close enough to help you out.

Steve, No way I'm starting it, and I'll be disconnecting the batter when I go back out in a few minutes. Dealer needs to check out and own everything so the repairs and (hopefully) original tractor warranty are intact.

I want to get the snow and ice off the roof sections to stabilize it, and I need to get access to put a tart over it for rain Tuesday. Monday I'll talk to the agent and see how much work that affects the structure directly resting on the tractor he wants me to mess with. There is also some cribbing I can do so things don't shift.

tnx for the kind words, Grunt!

time to get back to it...

I agree with stabilizing and tarping the whole thing, disconnecting the battery is a very good thing to do first. Don't get yourself hurt either.

This would be a good time to get a couple of your volunteer firefighter buddies to help out. Some of those timbers look to be pretty good size (and weight). Definitely not a one man job to do safely...even if the other guy is there just to provide a safety watch.

Oh man... that's a bad "sucker punch"!! Definitely take the wind outta your sails to come home and see that!

But... from what you can see in the pics - it doesn't look like a fatal wreck. The worst looks like the right side ROPS in the cab. The barn beam may have bent or tweaked that a bit.

The rest appears to be only "skin deep" and with some new parts should be as good as new.

Keep us posted on how you (and the tractor) come out.

Got all the snow off the tin, and some of the tin off too. The roof went from stiff to bouncy, so everything is stable with 1/2 the weight on it as it had this morning. I'll put a tarp over it tomorrow.

I plowed my neighbors driveways yesterday for them, one is a firefighter. They came over and helped. Funny how those sorts of things work out.

There is one main beam on the right rops holding up half of the mess, and the PHD on the tractor is holding up the other side. I'll let the insurance guy make the call, but it does look like great rescue training for the department. Roy is right- this is a very tricky technical rescue (of a tractor). If what is left fell on someone, they probably wouldn't survive.

Damage seems to be the front AC radiators, hood, two glass sides of the cab, the top molding on the cab. Oddly enough, the metal top is good. 3 pt hitch lever is bent a bit and the molding for that side is gone. But the underlying metal work seems good. I'm assuming the tilt is the weight of the structure.

I wish I could accurately describe or photograph the way the shed post split so it was resting on the ROPS bar, with a big piece of beam balancing out one side, the PDH and sickle bar holding up the other half of it all. You could spend days trying to get this to balance out that way. That is also why it will be a tricky recovery.

I'll post on this thread how it all goes with the insurance, the Deere dealer, and what it takes to repair it. It's stable for now. Only got about 3 hours sleep last night after plowing all day, so a little rest is in order. It gets down to 10 here tonight so I just hope everyone stays off the icy roads (which as the call I was on last night when all this collapsed).

Nothing squishes like a Deere.

Here's the view of the shed from the house. Not what you want to see in the AM. Note the little green roof the tractor that was inside the shed.

The whole shed went south (literally in this case) at once, and just folded evenly on one side and landed on the ground. The main roof just missed the tractor and the overhand section is what landed on it.

Know everyone likes pictures, just thought I'd toss in this one.

Man that is awful to see being a fellow deere owner and also having a brand new tractor mine only has 6 hrs on it. I would have said a bunch of bad words when I came out and seen that. Its great that it happened after you were out of the shed and you were not hurt . I would like to know who your insurance co. is because I had to get an extra policy on my tractor? My agent said my 3320 was to big to be covered on my home owners policy.

We are with State Farm, they have house/cars/umbrella. I'll let everyone know how they behave.

Yeah, when I came down the driveway last night I said out loud "Golly gee, what in world happened to that shed? Oh holy moly, it looks like my nice green tractor is severely messed up".

Or words to that effect...
