Does anyone know if king kutter's tillers come ready to use or do they need to be greased and stuff before throwing them on the tractor? I'm going to pick one up from Fleet Farm tomorrow

The quick answer is..............ask the dealer............some have them ready to work, some don't.

My bush Hog tiller was serviced and ready to operate. The manual was signed and dated by the dealer.

Some are and some aren't I would take a crescent wrench and check while there to see if you need to pick up oil for the unit. I bought a 6 foot KK tiller and it does a great job.

personally i wouldnt buy any new equipment that i had to fill the gearbox on or check to see if it had been filled.i bought a new 10ft shredder like that once from a dealer that didnt check the gearboxes.an after 10hours of shredding it blew a gearbox.well the dealer an i went round an round for awhile, with him saying it was my fa;t the gearbox blew up.an i told him flat you got 2 things you can do,1 give me my check back an pick up this peice of junk.or 2 honor your word an replace all 3 gearboxes.well he replaced them.the shredder is a peice of junk,an broke down for good 1yr later.

The gearboxes on King Kutter equipment PREVIOUSLY were shipped dry. Now, all gearboxes are shipped with gear lube in them. That change happened about two years ago. HOWEVER, it's always a good idea to check the level of the gear oil in both gearboxes on any tiller, prior to the first use, and every use / or eight hours of use.

The gearboxes are filled manually, by American folks just like you and me. And just like you and me, they can and do sometimes make a mistake. So it's possible that one or both gearboxes might get missed.

All King Kutter tillers are set up and ready to use. Depending on tractor, you may need to shorten the driveline. Other than that, depending on where you buy it, you may need to un-crate it, because all King Kutter tillers are shipped in wooden crates.

I hope that helps! Have a great day, and thank you for your interest in King Kutter products!

Sorry. That does happen sometimes. Use gear oil type GL5-85W 140 or Triple Zero Grease; which can be poured, and has "EP" i.e. "Extreme Pressure" additives.

We use the Triple Zero (000) grease at the factory, but it's a little hard to find sometimes. 85W-140 will work just fine!

Thanks for buying King Kutter!

I think it happens more often! I just bought a brand new KK 5' tiller a month ago, asked the dealer if it was ready, answer was no. He did throw in a gallon of lube for me. Glad I asked!

KK rep, thanks for the info. It's nice to have a rep on here to fill us in. How about a big sale on 6' tillers:thumbsup:....I need to bump up to a 6 footer, the 5footer doesn't cover my tracks like it did with my 1533.
