I doubt you'll ever see speed sensitive keys on a vehicle like this -- there is not enough supporting technology on the vehicle needed to do something like this, not even close. But you can stick it in low to really reduce the top end (it will also stop faster, which could be good or bad).

Shifting requires application of brakes in any situation where there is a load on the gears. You may be able to know this when on hills, but there are other cases where it just happens. Think about how hard it is to shift gear ranges on a tractor sometimes. Fortunately Kubota put a relief valve so that the HST will take load off the gears from that side of the drivetrain. It's actuated when you press the brake pedal. There is an adjustment to tweak this and/or compensate for cable stretch. I had to tweak mine after about 20 hours. It makes a big difference. Be sure to check that out (it's in the owner's manual, although their instructions make no sense so you have to study it and understand why it's working or not working).
