Kubota B2910
I have a B2910 that I've been very happy with. My best friend is now thinking about buying a small tractor which he would use to mow his lawn which is about 1 acre, spread mulch, grade his driveway from time to time and maybe use a backhoe for trenching or moving bushes, etc..

I told him I would buy him a 4' rotary cutter if we would help me mow my 19 acres every now & then.

He's going to look at the BX23 and the B7510. Any suggestions between the two would be helpful and I will pass along to help him decide.

Thanks !!!

Both seem like a lot of tractor for what he is going to use it for. However, if I had to choose one of the two based on what you said he is going to do, I'd say a BX23. If it where my choice and Kubota was the way I wanted to go it would be more along the lines of a BX1500 w/FEL with a MMM and small box blade. I'd just rent the back hoe for a day to do the trenching.

This is always a matter of $$$$$. If he can afford the BX23, then that will be the best choice for what you have described. If it comes down to a matter of $$$ then I would suggest that he consider the BX1830. I am not placing any disparaging remarks about the BX1500, however I feel that the BX1830 with the larger engine, tires, and fuel gauge is a better deal. If he wants to go bare bones cost, then there are some other choices out there in other brands, which I am not familiar with. Just seen a lot of them touted on the board in the past. Whenever questions like this come up, there are a lot more variables that need to be stated before a definitive recommendation can be made. You mention the size of the lot, and what he is thinking of doing with the machine. I know that for me, the backhoe is worthwhile, even though it doesn't get the use now that it did 2 years ago. To me, it is like having a car in the driveway that I don't drive very often. Sure a taxi might be less expensive way to go, but it is the convenience that outweighs the costs involved. As long as I can afford to let it sit idle, then I will. When I can't then that luxury will be gone.

I was going to buy a BX2230 but after researching ground clearance I went with the B7510 which has about 6" more ground clearance. I am using it to clear about 2 acres of woods and with only 6" ground clearance the BX series is just too low for my purposes.

With only 1 acre, and if ground clearance is not an issue, I would think the BX series would be the better choice for your friend.

I would like to have a backhoe but given the price I could not justify the expense. I could use it to dig out stumps but I can get a stump grinder to grind a lot of stumps for 25% of what I would have paid for a backhoe. And if I really need a backhoe I can hire a local guy with his backhoe for about $60 an hour and he can do more in an hour than I could do in 4 or 5 hours since he does it every day.
