L3430
I'm new here and really enjoy all the info. I just purchased a new L3430 with BH90 with a UAT thumb, LA723 fel, with 2000# forks. It gets here on wednesday, I cant wait, although I've waited 4 years for this big investment, I am totally impressed with this machine! I have a 2 acre lot that needs a lot of landscaping, and I am residential contractor. I figure it will pay for itself rather quickly. Does anyone out there have a thumb on their backhoe? I once rented a L35 with a thumb and found it very usefull for picking up piles of brush and logs.

Welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
There are several threads about thumbs on backhoes. There is one that has numerous comments on a BH90 with a thumb.

I do not have a thumb on my B4690 backhoe. I’m considering adding one now that it is out of warranty. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was thinking the same thing, warrantee.

My dealer said there would be no warrantee issue with the thumb, they are installing it. I also had them add hooks to the front bucket with a reinforcing plate. The dealer said they would take care of any thing that came up. They are very reputable and been here since 82, so I'm not worried. My salesman said most warrantee issues come up in the first 90 days, and most are not knowing what the heck your doing. For me the thumb is essential to what I want to do and I would forgo the warrantee if I had to.

Mike, thats much how feel about it too. Your dealer seems knowledgeable. I think some folks were running scared after we had a post here from a guy who bent his hoe. I think it was the dipper. He had added a thumb, I think it was hydraulic. Anyway, we never got all the details about it, the uasge he imposed on it etc., and I don't quite think we got an objective piece either. I would want a functional piece of equipment. I added my own hooks to the front bucket by welding them. Some folks talk about bolting them now because they fear the warranty issue. I think you also need to use a level of sensibility about it. In your case, the dealer is behind you as well. Your getting one of the finest tractors available. I ended up with the L3830 HST and it has easily exceeded my expectations. I tried all of the well known brands and the Kubota HST and loader were hands down the best. Best wishes, Rat...
