New L48

Regarding speed and carrying a load. I think the combination of having the hydraulic pressure jacked up on my L39 to lift what an L48 stock can lift and running heavy loads over bumps at +7 MPH is what caused the hydraulic pump to pop its housing seal after running +100 loads over a +1/2 mile round trip.

Pump is turned down to just a bit above stock and I only carry at 3-4 MPH now.

I still move +1 ton rocks, heaped loads, etc. and have not had any problems since the repair and adding the accumulator cushion.

More stays in the bucket too!.

(I know, get a dump truck!)

Your L39 would be a tractor to avoid buying used.

Please do tell more about the hydraulic auger.

This is high on my wish-list for additional implements for my L-39, and I am wondering if the model you purchased can operate on the L-39's hydraulic flow (smaller than the L-48 iirc) . What made you choose that make & model, and why?

I probably will spend $$$ on a grapple first, but if my mom continues her obsession with grape arbors and other similar projects, I may have to buy the auger sooner. I've got a lot of fencing to do (2 paddocks of 7 acres each: ~14 acres, plus some permanent cross-fencing) . With that, plus the arbors, decks, and out-buildings on the project list, a good hydraulic auger seems to make sense. My dealer has already installed a 3rd-function SCV on my loader, so I'm ready for the grapple and auger both, just $$$ holding me back...

I think that the L48 or L39 are just begging for such attachments. Congrats on equipping your L48 so nicely at the outset.

As an example of my 580 HP 1002 Mustang Cobra with +40K miles and original clutch, I may be hard on the equipment but not abusive and I take care of them.

My L39 has been reinforced and I try not to be hard on the engine and drivetrain. i tighten the frame bolts regularly and grease vewry often. Look at this way, my L39 is proven. It has a new hydraulic pump.

No plans to sell. It's better than new in all ways down to the protective layer of mud over the paint.

My B7200 has been through more as I look at as less of an investment loss if I wreck it. The B7200 still runs reasonably well.

A buddy of mine put a hydraulic auger on his loader arm. The tractor was a Kubota L3430. You will have no issue running the appropriate auger on the L39.

I agree with Rat that it will not be a problem with the L39’s hydraulics. There have been a number of people running hydraulic augers on Kubota’s without a problem and the L39 has one of the larger pump ratings in the Kubota line up.

I have the McMillen X975, McMillen. That's the one the dealer said would work best on my machine. IIRC, the L48 has 13gpm in the front. Seems to be just about right. From the specs it looks like the X1475 would work, too, at least on the L48. I just took the dealers advice, though.

The bit swings freely, so you have to make sure it stays on target. In spite of that I find I can dig holes one-person much more easily than I could with a 3ph PHD. The 2 big things for me are downpressure and being able to reverse the thing when it gets stuck. Of course, not having to replace a sheer pin is a big time saver, too.

The one thing I wish were different on mine is I wish the hyd motor was on the right side of the QA, rather than in the center. That would make it easier to see from the seat.

These have hex head augers, so keep that in mind. The drive ran about $2k.

Good luck with your fencing. I find fencing to be very gratifying work, but also exhausting and time consuming. I may not be the fastest, but I'm the slowest.
