New L48

ElBarranco - Thanks for the info. My mouth is watering over a new tractor, I just sold my 4310. My wife just uttered some of the most beautiful words I have ever heard her say " dear, you can get a new tractor"

I don't need one right this minute, so looks like I have my work cut out fo rme in the research department.

I heard it's going to be called the L57 using the turbo charged engine from the L5740 I believe the model is called and the new type HST Plus. I bet it will most likely look like the L39, as the new L26 does. It would make sence for all three TLB's to look the same. As for me, I'll take the old model with the addition of a turbo and a GST option.

I'd like the turbo and improved gearing, but I like the L48 just fine as it is. Wonder how much that L57 will cost.

Ok, where are the photos. I want to see that 4in1 bucket on the L48. Sounds like a great set up you got. Congratulations.

Here's the dilema: I've got a tractor. It's summer. I'm driving the tractor, doing tractor chores, not taking photos:)

I'll try to get some pics "real soon now". Am digging the 4-in-1. Works great for clearing trees from roads, and stuff like that. I can grap logs, or piles of brush, but also can move dirt. It's not a root grapple, but for mixed work it's incredibly handy.

I don't expect much from the new "L57" to replace the venerable L48 in terms of addressing the speed issue in M and H while keeping the HST tranny. Too heavy for H to be useful for anything but travel and long site work movement. As for the new adjustable HST, for what I get is all it does is make the HST response more adjustable to accomodate different operator prefferences as opposed to radically improving the HST function. My friend with new HST says he keeps it in the same position all the time and the only time it is adjusted is when his wife uses it. Factory thumb would be nice, let us hope they keep the heavy steel construction. GST would be nice, but for me.....and everyone has their own opinion (having owned GST before)....I prefer the HST regardless of its detractions for TLBs. As for more power, the only time I need it is if I am going to hook up some hay equipment or my monster 7' bush hog....both tasks of which are rare. A bigger hoe would be nice, but how much bigger can you get without having the transport height too high. I am eagerly seeking more data on new L57 as I am ready to pull trigger on 2nd new L48.

People always claim the ability of the L39 to be that of an L48, which it is not. I can pick up a huge heaping mound, wet if need be, and load a 10 wheeler with my rear wheels almost coming off the ground. I have also picked up the 3 192? Fordsons I have,(soild steel) check out curtisfarm.com, and barely did it. Park a L39 next to the L48 and make your own choice. I doubt the L39 would do either of the above mentioned tasks. If so, why is the L48 so much bigger? Regarding driving an L48 with 3K+ in the bucket past M and faster doesn't seem accurate or safe to me with all due respect. I would fire one of my workers if I saw them do that. That is called beating a machine. If that machine cannot work, neither can I. I hear mine twist and groan and can tell that when maxed out, anything faster than 5mph+ is damaging. Broke a loader pin last week. Ever do that? The thing is huge and snapped??? Driving around in H fully loaded does not seem advisable to me. Maybe we do different things? I use mine commercially and I love it. Big rocks, lots of dirt, and stumps. No problem.

Regarding speed and carrying a load. I think the combination of having the hydraulic pressure jacked up on my L39 to lift what an L48 stock can lift and running heavy loads over bumps at +7 MPH is what caused the hydraulic pump to pop its housing seal after running +100 loads over a +1/2 mile round trip.

Pump is turned down to just a bit above stock and I only carry at 3-4 MPH now.

I still move +1 ton rocks, heaped loads, etc. and have not had any problems since the repair and adding the accumulator cushion.

More stays in the bucket too!.

(I know, get a dump truck!)
