It looks like I finally have to make a decision! I am supposed to be at the dealership (35 miles from my home) tomorrow morning to sign papers on one of these tractors. I was set on the 5030 HST and had not even thought about trying a GST model - never driven one before. Wow, I was impressed with the GST. It was very easy to shift and nice to be able to use the entire range of gears without stopping to shift to L, M, or H as with the HST. There's only 3 pto HP between the 5030 with HST and the 4630 with GST. I'm sure I'd never know the difference. I can see it would take some getting used to the Forward, Reverse lever. I'm thinking hooking up implements and loader work might be easier with the HST. Otherwise, I don't see any disadvantage to the GST.

Either way, I am looking at this:
CAB Tractor
-rear wiper, rear work lights, radio/CD
853 Loader
-QA heavy-duty round back bucket
-pallet forks (?)
-Woods toothbar
-3 chain hooks
Woods Brushbull 6 ft Cutter
Wood HB72 Box Blade
Land Pride LR2584 landscape rake
-dual guage wheels

I think that is all. I'm looking at approx. $36-38k depending on which tractor and whether or not I get the pallet forks.

For those of you that favor one of the tractors over the other, NOW is your LAST CHANCE to convince me! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd go 5030. Not enough difference in money from what I've priced not to go 5030. If I wanted smaller than 5030 I'd go 4330, more money saved. But, if the 4330s too small I'd be in a 5030. Hard to find 4630s around here for that reason. Good luck in whatever you decide. Show us a picture when you get it.

I like the GST as well. I like it for loader work myself. Maybe I'm just use to the forward reverse lever from using larger machines (like a case 580k backhoe) which almost all have a lever similar to that of a GST. The nice thing about a GST and loader work is that you have way more control over the throttle to help speed up the lifting of the loader when under load.

I will give you my experience with hydro and GST. Each has it strength and weakness. my L48 is better suited for loader work much faster then the GST. my 4630 is a joy when your out working in the field mowing you can change speeds on the fly and make quick work of that task. If you get GST look at the creep speed option I have used creep when hooking up impliments and changing out bucket for forks etc. If I were to have only one tractor I would go with GST with creep.

For what it's worth, I just went throught the same. I chose the 5030 HSTC because now I won't ever wonder what if I bought the right tractor. I took mine for a spin tonight and it is soooo smooth and powerful.

Go 5030!
