Bought a new Cub from HD with a 50" deck and a 23hp Kohler Courage engine. Only have used it once so far. I hate the rear mow route of turn the key, push the pto back in, then go in reverse to mow. I have to admit that had I actually mowed with one prior I might have opted for the entry level zero turn by Bad Boys for $4600. Of course thats $2600 more than I paid for my Cub. Maybe it will grow on me as I use it. I bought it for very light duty stuff in my L & G business to mainly pull a 28gal yard roller, mowing a little, and haul my 17cu ft landscape trailer around the landscaping jobs.

The engine seems strong and it does cut well but its not very fast but then again if I wanted fast I guess I should have went with the BB zero turn. Nice to look at that is for sure. I do not know much on the 23hp Kohler. Years ago I know they use to make good solid engines but do not know how well MTD has been doing of late with the Cubs.

I am thinking you need to take time to read your instructions. You should be able to move the key to reverse position and push a button that will allow you to reverse with the pto remaining on. Mine does. My manual shows the ground speed at just over 5mph which is a little slower than some but still ok.

davemhughes,
cardenharry is correct! turn on your pto, turn key to one position backwarks (revtek postion), push the triangle button (light turns on and almost blinds you), you are now ready to mow in reverse all day long. I also have a 1050 and I can move along at a good pace. Why do you want to move so fast? Mowing grass is quality alone time. Good Luck with your new machine. Hope we helped you out.

mine too frusterated the fire out of me when i wanted to mow in reverse. I disabled that safety "feature" on mine. (follow the wires attached to the reverse pedal towards the rear of the mower, undo the connector and tape up really good so mositure doesnt get in) of course, i can not recomend this. its just how i fixed my problem.

Congrats on the purchase Dave. You will eventually get used to the Rev-Tek thing. I still forget to activate it from time to time on my 2544 and off goes the deck when I mash the reverse pedal !@#$%. As far as pulling a roller or cart with your 1050, be careful with that. What you are pulling in combination with operator weight can often be too much for these. If it were mine, I'd use it for mowing only.

Well I took the 1050 back then went out and bought a RZT54. Much more happy with it. Should of went this route to begin with. It is a sweet machine, sooooo responsive, fast and that 25hp kawasaki engine is smooth and powerful. Now this thing is truly fun to use. I will follow the wiring to disable the reverse mow thing. Only good thing is as soon and you go forward again the blades turn automatically.

Actually later want the Cub "tank" in a 72" w/28hp Cat diesel.........dreaming I know for now.

I have a CC 2180, which I bought 3 years ago, but kept it and went out and bought a Z-Force 50 last year. Really enjoy both, the wife loves the 2180 for yard work, hauling the wagon, etc, and I love mowing with the ZTR.

The RZT with the Kawasaki engine sounds like a nice unit, nice sized deck also.
