Web site is under construction, www.gohawkline.com. We should have pictures up very soon. Last week and this week we are holding open house for all dealers. Production is underway for trailers and disc harrows (sealed bearings available). Box blades and grader blades will be available first week in February. Rotary cutters are a few week later. We have tillers from Sicma on the way and we a negotiating to sell "Agric" brand tillers under the HawkLine logo! We are proto-typing several other items at this time, rock rakes, bale spears, forklift / bale spear combo, post hole digger etc. Should have product spec sheet for these items soon.

Brian,
Paint is always important tell us why not Powder Coat Paint?
Is the Sherwin-Williams polyurethane finish as hard as their Powder Paint?
What colors will the Sicma tillers and finish mowers be available in?
What about hay tools?

Hi Mark,

Exactly what are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of paint...?

I can understand using the "Sherwin-Williams" name as a brand recognized draw... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Brian,

Far from disappointed, I'm elated to hear you're already up and in production already. That must have been an "interesting" sixty days. Congratulations! I'll be looking forward to reading more of your posts here. Welcome aboard!

Right from the beginning the quality of our fit and finish has been our driving force. Having worked in this industry for close to twenty years I have seen items from countless manufacturers with varying paint quality. I have seen equipment with little or no paint coverage, painting over rusty steel, and painting over contaminated steel (oil coating) that would come off in sheets. Right from the start we went looking for the best coverage product available. We looked at powder coating at great length. It provides excellent coverage and depth. The only downside is its lack of resistance to UV light which causes the coating to fade if left outdoors in direct sunlight over time. We were looking for a finish at would provide us with a minimum of three years direct sunlight UV resistance with little of no fading. While walking a county fair we ran across a vendor using a urethane finished on the dump bodies they manufactured. After investigating we found that a lot of school bus, heavy equipment, and industrial equipment manufacturers were using this type of paint on their products. The more we looked the more we liked the UV protection. We also liked the way it covered the product, looking almost like powder coating. We learned that prepping the product before painting is as important as the primer and paint application itself. Without proper application the effort is wasted. We brought in the experts from Sherwin Williams and gave them a clean sheet of paper and said “give us the best paint system in the industry” period. With their help we developed our complete paint line, including mono-rail, abrasive blast booth, phosphate bath booth, primer and paint booth and drying chamber. We have developed a quality control program empowering our employees the ability to make critical decisions at each step of production to ensure our users will be purchasing the best product available for the price.

Remember, from the time our raw materials enter our factory, until our dealer’s pick the finished products up they are stored under roof!

Man I can't wait!
I've been buying from WAC for a while and that was my main fault with the products. The paint or...lack there of!
I'm looking forward to the time I need to restock implements!
I also like the flexbility of buying local.

"The only downside is its lack of resistance to UV light which causes the coating to fade if left outdoors in direct sunlight over time."

We had no problems at all getting SW to add UV protection to their powder for us. Of course, I realize it's probably too late at this point to change course, but with all the advantages of powder finish and none of the EPA disadvantages, it was a done deal for us. I do realize that the EPA, or more correctly, the individual state EPA, is more "active" in some parts of the country. Here in IL, disposal of the filters for a liquid paint booth runs $1800 per month plus a fee for the volume of the filters. Easily $3500 per month for us.

Getting up and running in your time frame is an exceptional effort. Sounds like you folks are doing it right. It's an exciting time and even though you're probably a bit frayed around the edges from the effort, I hope you are enjoying the realization of your dreams. Hopefully, you can take a minute or two and congratulate yourself and your team for pulling it off. Then it's back into the battle /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

I look forward to meeting and getting the chance to chat when we can both take a breather.

Congratulations again!

Please don't let this post hijack this thread into a political discussion but I find this very encouraging in the context of the US economy. I would think that, based on their line of business, HawkLine's revenue stream is largely based on discretionary spending. i.e. few people "have" to buy an implement for their CUT. So I'm encouraged that HawkLine and their finincial backers clearly have a positive outlook on the economy. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

There is a certain element of "the economy is as good as you think it is" at work. And, while I want to be aware of what's going on, good news doesn't sell newspapers or tune in viewers to the 6:00 news. This brings a slant of negativism to the media, whether it's an outright attempt or human nature. I tend to believe the human nature angle over some conspiracy theory.

One thing I do believe. When companies and the people who work for them start expanding and spending nationwide, the pent up demand for manufacturing is going to leave a lot of vendors flat footed. Those who are prepared to respond will gain market share and prosper.
