New member and NAA owner

Hi everyone,

I just bought my first tractor, a 1954 NAA with a Dearborn loader. I originally purchased it because I'm building a woodworking shop next summer and thought it could come in handy. However, the more research I've done on these machines the more I want to take it back to it's former glory.

About the NAA. Sounds like you enjoy old stuff like I do.
5 years ago I purchased a 53 NAA. I could see the beauty in this cool machine.
It was pretty tired. Burned a quart of oil an hour but everything else seemed pretty good.
I took it to a father/son shop and had them start rebuilding the mechanical things to make it dependable. They questioned my sanity as to the dollar investment in such an old tractor.
She hasn't been painted to date but is a daily workhorse.
800 hours later it purs like a kitten. Farming in the summer and snow removal in the winter no complaints.
All considered, $4 / hour return on investment to date was well worth the initial expense and the cost/hour keeps getting lower.
If I had bought a $12K machine 5 yrs ago, I would be at$150/ hour and counting.
Considering the NAA is still worth what I paid for it, I think it was a good investment.
Someday I might restore her to something pretty. For now, she's a great workhorse that owes me nothing. I owe the history of the NAA to keep her working. Dave

Thanks so much for the reply!

I actually go to pick her up on Sunday. Before I chose her I looked at an 8N that was closer to home, but had a blown head gasket. Not that that would have been a total deal breaker, but I thought for the money it should have been ready to go. Anyway, the guy had an old homemade log splitter that hooked into the PTO that looked like it would split logs from The Red Wood Forrest. I didn't get his tractor, but now I have a heck of a log splitter. I also have an old cordwood saw that I'm going to bring back to life as soon as I figure out how to make a guard so I don't lop off any digits.
