Tractor
Do not own a tractor yet
hello all,

been lurking on the forums for a month reading and learning.

building a place in Gig Harbor, WA on 4 Acres consisting of:
2 acres fairly flat
1 acre fairly steep slop
1 acre very steep

Looking into either purchasing a Kubota BX25D or a B2601 w/FEL and BH

key considerations:
1. as much stability as possible on the 1 acre of fairly steep if ultimately it is deemed possible
2. PTO horsepower to run a wood chipper like the one from Land pride

Have already priced out the 2 options above just don't need the tractor for at least a couple of months

posting a few picture to give an idea of the property

Best Regards
Russell

Stability means dual wheels. I reccomend 4-6" between the duals for self cleaning when mud squashes between the tires.
Have a look at ClicDualWheels. This gives you dual wheels or single wheels quickly and easily.

:welcome:
To TBN Russ from Alabama. Nice looking property. The dealer should include filled tires. I would go with no less than the 2601. Be sure to get the QC bucket.

Russ - Welcome to TBN from the dry side of the state. Nice view out onto the sound. I would go with the "B" series - maybe the B3350, 4WD and loaded rear tires. You will find the added size & power is nice to have on slopes and in sticky conditions. Somebody did a good job on the driveway too.

thanks All.

redman - had seen a video of a much larger dual wheeled trackeron youtube being used on a hill. Rather interesting to watch :)

mddorange - yes, both filled tires and QC bucket are in the quote for the 2601. I am still a bit unsure which tire to go with. I have read different opinions on tires.

oosik - I have seen I have a few neighbors on this board, including yourself, dragoneggs, and Tractor Seabee. I am sure I will be coming to you all for advice :)
I did look at the B33 options but I think I am already pushing it quite a bit (with the wife) going to the B2601 given I told her I only needed to spend $15k on a tractor and would already be in the $25k range for the B2601

Welcome Russell, you are welcome to visit anytime (if I'm home)! I'm maybe a half hour away and you can see what a BX25D has done so far to tame a very steep hill overlooking the Hood Canal. Even test drive it on a hill if you want. I put spacers on for extra stability, added a Piranha tooth bar for digging, hooks, LED lights, and belly plates to protect the HST fan. The BX will surprise you with what it can do in a small package. I like the size getting around tight spots. I only have 1.5 acre but could see it handling more easily. A great homeowner tractor. I don't regret going bigger. Another consideration is whether you are going to mow with it.

Thanks Dragoneggs, My place is right on the border between Kitsap/Pierce County facing Vashon Island. I have already seen many of your pictures because, so far, your situations appears to be the closest to mine. I am super impressed with everything you have done in such a short time (I read your very first thread and am on the gravel road thread now :) ).
I am quite sure the BX25D would handle most of my needs. There are a few things the B2601 has that makes it attractive. Mowing is probably a few years away :)

Look forward to meeting you, hopefully early in summer when I get more time to spend down there

Russ,

Welcome aboard a great forum. I live right up the road from you. Just take Crescent Valley RD north, it turns into Olalla Valley RD. I am a mile past the school just after the S curve at the ball park. Second driveway on the right. I have 20+ AC of forest and it is a lot steeper than yours looks. My BX 25 is a real workhorse. I have over 1500 hrs in 4 years o0n it and no real problems except for what I break. Stop by problem less than 10 minutes from you. Dragoneggs keeps saying he is going to come out but haven't seen him yet. Maybe we can get a coffee klatch going, or beer and brats this summer.

Hello neighbor... well kind of since I don't get up to Olympia much right now!

I can't say enough good things about my BX23... over 10 years now and very pleased...

Your fortunate in that there are quite a few dealers in your areas.

If I only could only keep one tractor it would be the BX... and it is very easy on fuel

Only thing to keep in mind is small tires and protect the belly!

Made several road trips as a teen to Purdy WA and always said I would be back...

On one of those trips did a little exploring out Boston Harbor way and that clinched it.
