I dunno about this "goin either way" thing. Oh, you mean yankee/southern gentleman; I get it now. When I talk to folks up north they ask me where in the south I'm from; when I go south they ask where up north I'm from. There's just no winnin' when you're in the middle. I guess I could fit in wherever I happen to be.

And to mddorange: sub tender USS Sperry; early '70s. Another life in another lifetime; I just barely remember it. Nearly all of my father/brother/uncles/cousins did military service. Some "short term" and some career. So I just did what I thought I was supposed to do. I spent 33 years working at the local VA hospital, though, and eventually got to feeling jealous of the accomplishments that many of those guys performed. All I did in the navy was keep my mouth shut and stay out of trouble. Many of the guys that were patients there did things that movies and books get written about. Thanx and gratitude go to them and to all of you that served.

Well, that's enough (or waaay too much) about me.

I have a JD LX178 to mow with and pull a small 2-wheeled wagon around. My neighbor and I are contemplating going halves on a "real" tractor to maintain our shared gravel driveway. I've been searching the forums and finding quite a bit of good advice along those lines. Don't be surprised if you see posts in other forums asking for more advice about that.

Welcome from near STL.

Hopefully you are a huge Cardinal fan as well as MIZZOU. Cards started excellently.

Yes, as did the Blues. Sunday was a good day for STL sports and not-so-god for Chicagoans. I'm a Missourian and my wife is from Chicago. We try to go to one game a year at Wrigley; Sherry in her Cubs getup and me in my Cardinal red. So far I've never seen the Cards lose to the Cubs.

I really don't care a hoot for hockey except for when the Blues are playing the Blackhawks.

I came to Columbia in the fall of '69 to go to Mizzou College of Engineering. Never left (for very long; still considered myself a Columbian even when I was a sailor in the big canoe club) and probably would bleed black and gold if I could.

I'm not into sports, so I just sit back when the subject turns to sports, but we'll eventually touch on something which will pique your interest.

My brother was on the USS Sperry in the late 60s I think. He was on the USS Enterprise before that operating out of Subic Bay. He then worked at Mare Island where the Sperry was built until it closed.

I've never served, so my hat is off to anyone who served honorably anywhere, anytime no matter how long or what they did.

My oldest brother died in a VA hospital and you just can't underestimate how important those who work there are.

My daughter married a guy from the Chicago area. I hated going to Wriggly as the people around us never watched the game, just went to see snd be seen. Never stopped talking about everything but baseball.

Yeah; from what I've seen at the times I've been to Wrigley when the Cards are in town it's sort of like what I've always heard about the Kentucky Derby and the Indy 500; just a big party and the ballgame is only an excuse to be there.

Yes, I have always been a big Cardinals fan, ever since my dad introduced to me to "The Man" back in the 50's. Luckily, her husband is a big Bears fan, not really into baseball.
