Snow is creeping down the mountain...
should be here soon!

Sawyer Rob: I have also done the McCarthy trip in the fall. Haven't been back there for awhile. The first time I went there was nearly 30 years ago. The bridge at that time (THE Bridge) was planks with daylight in the center - and no sides. Now, it's a normal crossing, but still a spectacular bridge.

1973 - the 4WD club in Anchorage - Top 'O the World Four Wheel Drive - did a late spring run to McCarthy. We got to that wooden trestle bridge and decided that was "IT" - as far as driving. A couple of the more foolish members did drive across that thing and - Honest to God - we could see the thing swaying. So the remainder of us in the group walked across that thing and rode into McCarthy - all piled in the two jeeps. Like you say - now there is a regular bridge there - - not the old wooden trestle one.

I went flying across that bridge (Kuskulana) on a snow machine in 1970 and the skis got wedged between the timbers and threw me over the handlebars. Scared the crap out of me! I coulda fell 238' to the bottom.

Holy cow!!! You were a lucky guy. It's a long ways down! I was always glad to get back across with no earthquake.

It's those rolling earthquakes that make me want to puke. The normal "shakers" don't bother me.
