Hi All,

Just wanting to find out info about troy bilt tillers and John Deere 4020's.

In particular I have questions about the troy bilt junior, which I understand isn't made any more. I have spotted one at a pawn shop and need a tiller. Lots of folks on the net seem to love these older "last forever" troy bilts vs buying new. I am getting into gardening this year for the first time and have a 25ft by 100ft plot. I paid a guy to till it with tractor so that is done and I've planted mostly, so I'm wanting a tiller for weeding between rows. The troy bilt jr's smaller size would seem to make it ideal for that, plus the wheels are powered (I think) unlike most the tillers I've seen in that size range. Anyway, I'm a tiller newb and looking to increase my knowledge.

Thanks, Auto5man

Thanks for the welcome, I went back to the pawn shop and tried it out, checked fluids etc. Started on the first pull and ran well, everything working except reverse. I'm hoping that's a belt issue. Machine seems to generally be in good shape. Paid the 200.00 "out the door" price and promptly went home and tilled a swath in my backyard. It was pretty effortless and turned the dirt into fine powder. Next I will be trying to acquire a manual, need to figure out how to get it into free-wheel so I can move it without engaging trans/tines with motor.

Be careful how fine you till the soil- too much can turn your garden into concrete after a soaking rain, particularly soils with high clay content.

Okay PH, I will. I fixed the reverse it wasn't broken just a little clip that helps the belt engage had slipped off, reverse works great now!
