It might be good to see if she'll run before you invest in paint and conversions.

To get it running I'd follow the advice about first making sure the engine will roll over. Make some quick splices with new wire to replace the bad insulation. Then follow Soundguy's advice about what to clean and change.

Hopefully it'll come alive. Then start thinking about paint and upgrades.

I want to paint the Golden Jubilee emblem on the front, does anyone have any advice? Where to get the paint or how to. I want it to look as close to original as I can.
~thanks~

KM, why don't you first have the emblem chromed or at least polished. I believe it was originally polished with paint used only to bring out the hi-lites.

I just bought this old 1953 Ford Golden Jubilee, with a blade and post hole auger for $200 Canadian. It last ran 3 years ago. Did I make a good purchase ???? I don't think it will take much to get her running again. We'll see, I guess !

Clean the battery connectors and the electrical connections to the starter motor. Remove the spark plugs. Try to get the engine to spin with the starter. If the starter doesn't work, remove the hood and see if you can spin the engine using a socket wrench on the nut that attaches the belt pully to the end of the crankshaft (I don't recall if that Jubilee is set up for a hand crank). If the engine turns, the ignition system and carburetor need to be serviced before trying to get the engine to start. If the engine is stuck, then follow soundguy's advice on getting it unstuck.

Good luck.

Do you have Craigslist in Canada? I would list the blade and auger and rear tires/rims if they hold air. All that should net you around $1000. Next, take the remains of the tractor to the scrap-yard to get another $600 or so. Invest your winnings in an 8n or 1955 or newer 600 series, much better tractors. The 1953 Jubilee was the biggest step backward that the Ford tractor Co ever took. It took them another couple years to finally work the bugs out of the OHV engine and the "live" hydraulics. You can find much better tractors to pour money into. No sense starting out with the tractor that marked the biggining of the end for the Ford tractor Co.

imho.. the OHV red tiger in the naa was a very good engine design.. it ran thru 1964 in various CI ranges from 134 to 192 and had adaptions into the 144/172 diesels. past 64 it ran in industrial machines like pumps etc.
