I just picked up an 855 today. want to check it out tomorrow and maybe change fluids. any tips on fluid change and overall advice to make sure tractor runs well? no manual yet. first tractor ever.

I changed the engine oil/filter first thing. I just bought a hydraulic filter and 5 gals of the JD spec off brand. Waiting to get time to change that too. I have been using the heck out of it though. Works great. I am very pleased with mine so far. Hope you are too. Just remember, they are a getting old and things will break from time to time....just don't get discouraged.

I've been using off-brand hydraulic oil as well. The only problem is the only off-brand I can find is J20C spec (Hy-Guard). The tractor really should be using J20D spec (Lo-Vis Hy-Guard) and I notice a bit of a performance hit. Next time it gets changed, I will pony up and switch back to J20D, which I have only been able to find at a dealer.
