FIL's New Holland 3010s
Hello all. I just wanted to break the ice and say hello. I am recently retired and have began farming which has been a life long dream for me. I have 9 head of cattle 4 of which are calves, I have seventy acres to clean up and fence. I currently use my farther in laws New Holland 3010s with fel. I want to buy a new tractor so bad I can't stand it, but my wife, being the more realistic of us, says I need to wait. We need a new barn, fencing and pond first. The sad part is I know she's right. In the mean time I enjoy reading what others have to say about their farms and tractors. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your group. JB

Welcome to TBN, JB!
As long as using your FIL's tractor works out, consider it a blessing.
This gives you time to figure out exactly what you really need and what you want in your next tractor, so you can order it with no regrets.
If I had known want I know now, I would have ordered mine with a quick attach bucket so I could swap with forks when I need to, which is often. I also would have ordered the tractor with remotes for Top-n-Tilt to make the 3pt hitch much more versatile. Affording these additions would have been doable, if not painless, spread over the monthly payments, and I would have been able to get a lot more done right from the get-go.

Welcome from another Kentuckian. I grew up in the city and had the dream of moving to the old family farm to work it, we did it about 18 years ago.

Welcome.

We bought an 1983 JD 310B backhoe when looking for a FEL for the MF. The people had bought it 3 years before we bought it from them for $7200 when they moved to the country and needed to do a lot of clean up and fencing. They had most of it done so they sold it to buy other equipment. Just a thought that has worked out well for others. One that size can push over some types of trees very well even without digging and most any size tree by cutting the roots on all three sides. Due to my physical limitations I expect we will keep it around as long as it will start and run.

Have a great time with your farm.
