Well little got done today had to travel for work but did get a better price from the local guy! So now it is on. Had 9 hours of driving to think about what to do. Friends that have seen both are torn as well. We have Clay and loam whith shale for soil. I want to put in posts, mow (not finish mow), work grades, move dirt rock and snow as well as spray. Most of them say the 20/122 will get it done just more slowly. I was suprised how some said the 30 was so BIG. The wife drove it and said no big deal. I was more suprised by the larger size. More power is always nice. It was kinda funny my wife was talking with a neighbor and he called the 20/122 a glorified lawn tractor. I don't see it that way but he grew up around bigger ranches in Montana. The debate is still on and with me being out of town it is going to slow things down more than expected. Guess the best thing is to take a deep breath and it will all sort itself out.

Thanks again everyone!!

I forget which Laws these are.

- You will always find more uses for your tractor AFTER you've got it.

- You will always find that you have tasks requiring a bigger tractor.

- You can sometimes substitute extra time, wear and tear to do a task requiring a bigger tractor, but don't bet on it.

- Match the size of the tractor to the size of the job. Buy two if you have to. Don't use a lawn mower to plow 500 acres, and don't use that John Deere 9030 to mow your lawn.

Well tomorrow I go to buy the local CK30 and try to get a buy on the attachments. We are going this way after talking with a couple of guys out in my area and their big issue was how steep our hill is, stability and the composition of our soil. They also saw it as an investment and said I would never regret the extra power. One even suggested the next model bigger. I am going to get a canopy, 60" rear blade and front forks. I will shop around for the mower and post auger. What are the thoughts on a scarifier? It makes sense that it would break up the soil for gradeing but? I also have looked at the grading scrapers. Those seem cool but there are so many choices of goodies for moving dirt around. I have a little bit of road to build and some elevations and grades to work for drainage. They still have to mount the loader and I will also see about having the tires filled with beet juice for more weight down low.

Thanks,
Gene

Fugowwee,

I'm a quiet noobie lurker, not a knowledgeable expert... been following your thread and others.

I hope you'll keep us posted on how the CK30 works out... Right now that's my choice, and I'd love to hear some reports from someone like me... someone who is just learning all this stuff with a CK30.

Regards

You will be happy with the CK30. All I got with my CK35 HST over three years ago was the Woods 7' backhoe. Since then I have picked up, used, a post hole auger, box blade and back blade. You may want to use the tractor a bit before buying attachments. There is a learning curve to all this. Post some pics when you get her home. :)

No doubt, Art, but I'll tell ya one thing. Big Sky country skews one's sense of distance and grade, I know that much. :D

I haven't been out west in a few years but I do remember looking at the mountains and thinking three to four hours away, at the end of the day we were a bit closer!

We would have major pucker factor slopes here for many compared to a lot of areas of this contry but there are other areas that are the same.

Fugowwee, If the tractors you are considering were all $1 which one would you choose?
