thanks Jeff, I am having a hard time finding the dedicated Ford tractor forum, or the pts. and rep. forum,,, are they on TractorByNet.com?? First time member, so kind of daft when it comes to knowing what is all available for info.. Main problem that I am having is that the left hand shift lever for the 1,2,3,4, gearing for the 1,2,3,& Reverse ,, is stuck.. The left lever is the one stuck.. I can still shift the right shift lever just fine. Initially stuck in a higher gear, so I couldnt really do anything but ride the tractor around my place.. Took the top off of the the section that holds the two shifting levers , had about ten bolts that held the top down, and when I took the last 2 off, I noticed that the top was being pushed up by something, didnt have a manual , so I wasnt sure what I was getting into, but found out there are 4 springs that fit up into some guide holes that are in the top cap, and these springs are pushing down on 4 ball bearings that fit down against 4 sliding rods that travel front to back to change the gears in the transmission.. these rods (about 5/8" in dia) have blocks attached to the top side of them, just under the area where the ends of the gear shift levers fit down thru the top of the tranny cover access plate. These rods had 3 milled detente grooves in them that the little ball bearings fit into, to position the gears in the exact right spot needed .. I was able to gently rock the tractor back and forth and get the 1,2,3,4, left side, two sliding rods, to move the gears properly.. At that point I thought perhaps my problem was solved.. I think I got it in the #2 gear , because when I put it all back together, It runs much slower , but the 1,2,3,4 gearing speed left lever is still stuck for some reason.. Runs slow enough so I can use with a box blade now.. Bought a new 5 Foot box blade ( King Cutter Brand) this evening at Atwoods Farm and Ranch Store ... Looked at the Box blade yesterday, was $499.99,,, today it was marked down to $429.99.. Good timing 4 me, Thank God!! Picked it up, came home, put it on the tractor, and was really pleased the the 3 pt lift, lifted it up and down with no problem what so ever.. Only problem it was too dark to see.. Will scratch around with it tomorrow.. No work , just play.. For the other minor problem I was having with the exhaust from the engine.. First time to have a diesel,, and when the tractor gets warmed up, there is a little bitty drain hole down at the bottom of the vertical muffler area.. Problem is when the engine gets hot, a little bit of very thin, super black burnt oil blows out of this little hole and gets all over whatever it comes in contact with.. drips on the starter, blows all over everything on the left side of the tractor.. Not terribly bad , but just enough to annoy and get things messy.. this oil is more like black dye!!!! Fast Orange hand cleaner barely will get it off,, if it get on your clothes or shoes , forget it... Anyway,, I JB welded a 1/8" copper fitting over the hole and ran a 1/8" copper drain line down to the bottom of the engine and I think I got that 1 problem fixed... I am wondering if my rings are shot and that is causing the burnt oil problem.. My son asked me if I checked for blowby or blowback when I bought the tractor , and I said what is that.. He then showed me to take off the oil add cap when the tractor is idling and see if any air is coming back up out of the hole.. there was and he said, Pops, thats how you check for blowby.. I think I learned a good lesson that day.. I learned my tractor was sucking and puffing out of the the hole.. Is my son correct??? The tractor seems to run really good, allthough it smokes a little bit.. Thanks for any advice, sincerely, Tim
