I just brought home a 1968 Ford 3550 industrial tractor with backhoe and loader. Is blt a proper nickname?
I have a lot to learn. So I will be lurking and reading and asking dumb questions as the come up.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Right now I am just baselining all the fluids, etc.
I have been reading quite a bit about different fluids for the different systems.
My machine is a basic loader backhoe, with 4 speed manual trans, no power reverse.
No rear pto or hydraulics.
Am I right about using 80-90 in the trans and rear end. And hydraulic fluid that meets the Ford 134D specs?
Worse surprise so far is the trans fluid was white due to water entering.

Do you know were the water enterd. Best to fix the water issue befor spending money on oil and having it get ruined from water.

Hi Mike,

Good point.

From reading I think it's getting in around the shifters. But I haven't got to that point yet.
Right now I am parked inside, so no fear.
Are there any other common ways for water to enter?

If there is no shifter boots then water can get in around there or the gasket in the top of the trans housing.
